It really is a genuine sign of his growth that he’s able to actually be honest about the abuse even just a bit. Reminds me of a movie they showed us in high school where a girl was raped but can’t actually tell anyone and basically doesn’t talk for most of the movie. Eventually she gets the courage and strength to write it down and tell her friend…who is dating her rapist.

my guess is she has divorced parents who ignore her and he’s the only one who paid attention to her. But he was also super nice to everyone and she was jealous/worried he’d leave her just like everyone else. Definitely getting abandonment issues from her
