I think she kind of does…? I mean, the author has been completely radio silent about the manga on X ever since someone told her she ruined the story while she was promoting chapter 46. She even deleted the post. At the very least, she knows she fucked up and doesn’t want to deal with the backlash. Maybe she already got hit with backlash when the second volume of the novel came out and just doesn’t want to go through that again.

Nah, if she were actually rewriting the story, she would’ve removed Hanabi being raped and sex-trafficked. The author had all the time in the world to rewrite the manga, considering the second volume of the novel came out on 2023-12-22, but she still chose to stick with the same story. Maybe the manga and novel versions are bound by some contract or something, I dunno.

Naw, this is more of a Lady MacBeth scenario. In order to fulfill her own ambitions she turned a relatively innocent man into a monster far beyond what she was expecting and now the savage hordes have come to Dunsany. I figure that by the intervention of a good man and his nosy good woman, Hanabi will get off far more easily than Lady MacBeth did.

Before you get misogynist with this remember to check the scoreboard, we've got 2-3 bad women (one of whom just raped the MC) and one bad man.

While I don't hate where the story is going, what I don't like is how the tone shifted so dramatically.
Anyone watch that SOL centaur anime from the mid 2010s? It was mostly all cutesy stuff until some weird af flashback episode involving a World War 2 inspired concentration camp scenario. This series reminds me of that anime with that bizarre and out of place bit.

I just… can’t understand with my tiny brain why the author and her dumb editor thought this was a good idea for the story. To me it feels like commercial suicide.

They are trying to redeem Hanabi. But instead of having her growing as a character with its tribulations in a natural way with basic things like reaching to "yeah, I see now how I was being an absusive shithead for years to a person I love and I was a horrible person, I have to repair the damage I did", they are just throwing her into a pimping situation so "she can learn the hard way for being a bitch". I suppose the author run the numbers and thought most readers are weirdos who love that, maybe the author themselves are like that. Kinda surprised for good readers are reacting in a normal way and calling out the bullshit.
