I dunno, I feel like this and that are two separate things. I guess we'll see, but I feel like the Emperor is the one in the story who does the worst, since he's the one with the actual power to affect change one way or another.

Hehehhe this is soap-opera levels of dramatic, even though I knew it was coming. It's still great.

So, I am supposed to chear for people who think lowly of slaves and accept slavery, believe in class status, discriminate based on that status; and hate someone who is trying to free herself from such life and fighting against the evil practice for her life with whatever means she can find?

@Winterspring
Saw your explanation for his behavior and thank you for putting it perfectly into words oh my godd
And tbh it's his reason behavior that pisses me off so much... his insecurity and desire for that jealousy and reaction literally pushed him to not only use Rashta but hurt MC badly. Like I can't imagine having someone I've trusted my entire life pull this shit even IF he "loved" me because he did evil shit either way.
I have no problem with him having a concubine and etc because that was normal in the past it's just... so many insults and frustration and toxicity could have been avoided with communication and well human decency.

The Emperor seems like an idiot. He knows Trashta is a run away, yet he doesn't give a much more dire punishment to the viscount. A few days of imprisonment for causing a disturbance and spreading "lies". And from the looks of it already about to bite him in the ass.

WHAT BABY??? WHOSE BABY?? Look the fact that she was a slave is unfortunate but still it doesn't justify her acting carelessly without thinking. The empress is deeply hurt by the actions of the emperor and rashta. Both of them are at fault. But truly the evil in this story is sovieshu. He's just the lowest trash among trash.

Anyway the panels on heinley and navier are so cute. I love them omg. Hope heinley would take her away to the western kingdom soon. I hate how navier is treated in that place

@vvasu001 I mean, to me it makes more sense that slaves here would be looked down on.

The slavery system here in this country is primarily for criminals who have received a life sentence. Criminals are made slaves to work off their debt to society for their crimes. It is not an inheritable position either. Every year the country does a review on the slaves and restores some to commoner status based upon how they've done and what reason they were made slaves.

Instead of life in prison, it's life as a slave.

From society's perspective:
This is a person who has done wrong and decided to escape from their responsibility after being caught and refuses to make amends or accept the consequences of their wrongdoing. An unrepentant criminal.

The main problem with Rashta wasn't that she was a slave. Sure, being a slave isn't a good thing. It basically means she has done something bad enough to get a life sentence for her crime or that her family did something so bad the entire family got a life sentence for her crime. That still wasn't the main kicker for the nobles though. The big problem was that she was a runaway slave.

Excerpt from the novel:
Being a slave didn’t mean one couldn’t rise in status. It was also the case for the innocent who became slaves due to collective punishment caused by their family members. Every year, the country restored a certain number of slaves to commoner status, but it was never the case for a runaway slave.

Being a slave meant that one had a life sentence for some crime they committed. Because a runaway slave escaped without paying the price, they were considered the same as an escaped prisoner. An extra charge of guilt was added, and a runaway slave was considered the dregs of society to aristocrats.

What's even worse really is that the Emperor has taken an escaped criminal with a life sentence as a concubine and is spoiling her.

And it gets crazier later.
Soveishu intends to oust a competent Empress who has been taking great care of the country. He makes a scheme to replace the competent Empress who had good upbringing and a powerful family with the escaped criminal and make the escaped criminal's child into the heir to and future ruler of the empire. In order to do that though, he also pins a crime onto Navier. Pretty shocking, really.
