Something I really disliked in the WN about what happens to Foll.

Spoiler: Big SPOILERS Obviously

I feel like she got gaslit by the butler into being the main heroine.

Let me explain; Yes, Foll is a woman.. And yes, Foll is Faratania, the same pirate woman who killed him in a past life. She also acts as the main heroine of the story.

MC is pretty dismissive of females because of his personality and duties as a nobleman, but because of the butler's excessive meddling (I am not exaggerating, he gets really annoying a lot of times and oversteps his boundaries as a servant), the butler gave Faratania "false hope" of becoming the MC's wife, and kinda feels like MC also gets gaslit into falling in love with Faratania. I said it was a "false hope" because there literally was no way Faratania could have done it on her own. The butler literally overstepped, funded, and directed her actions so that she could be a consort to MC.

It was not a good feeling when I was reading it. I was like "damn butler, just stfu and let them feel their own feelings instead of trying to shove it up their mouths". Really left a bad taste in my mouth whenever I saw the butler doing that bullshit.

I wouldn't say she was gaslit anywhere in the story. She obviously had feelings for MC, and it was MC that told her to basically either give up or become a noble - in the carriage she ran after, where her water spirit stopped Yurika so she could talk to him properly before he leaves.
Carlos only gave her an idea how she can accomplish that (surveying the sea), pulled some strings behind the scenes to actually organize the surveying expedition and include her on it, and offered her help with people and money IIRC (which she refused in the end, trying to prove herself with completing it with her own strength and accepting that it might take years to complete - later on she had 10% complete after half a year or so, then got some sketches from Lilyca with location of additional islands.).
Sure, Carlos is also meddling in other ways (his romance book about Dark Noble and Sailor GIrl, reporting to MC's father and other stuff like that) - but all his actions were in response to already existing romance, instead of being responsible for starting it. i understand his actions as ensuring that if his master will want to pursue this romance, he'll actually be able to - without things like giving up his titles.
