The only way it would work is if Dex struck a deal with every publisher, started paying scanlators, go to fully ad-supported, and otherwise worked exactly like before. I can't see any other case where you keep most scanlation groups and also somehow got a deal with (literally every) manga publishers.

with the rise of MANGAPlus and other publishers putting digital raws up for free, it's considerably more likely than it might first seem, but all the same It's a pipe dream and a half.

@Frostblood you do realize google translate works on images right? I uses it for a KR manwha awhile back. So that's a bit wrong. Google TL still sucks ass though.

But for your overall "why are you mad about paying scanlators" it's not theirs. Some might see it as a "grey" area but all this is illegal. If you're making hundreds or thousands of dollars off of pirated work....that's a bit wrong. But in this situation, everyone is morally wrong.

But I see this really hurting the TLs cuz now they'll just go to the kisshit and their like instead of getting the notification and reading it on the scanlators not very optimal site.

@boont do you need hundreds and thousands of dollars to maintain severs and sites? Scanlating if novels and manga has turnes into a money making machine. Not that fans don't appreciate the work, but c'mon, most are about the money.

@Jaegrqualm It would also require the people putting their money on the now legit site to be okay with the loli porn and other controversial content or with the non-politically correct stuff that shows up in the comment section from time to time or with literally anything Rapeman does.

If that's not the case, then the same staff defending lax moderation would be forced to moderate the shit out of the site and turn into Manga Youtube, which would lead a lot of people (myself included) to leave.

I don't even know why people are taking this so seriously.

With how the foreign market has been developing, your argument will only get better with time, as long as you're not stomped out of existence with lawsuits and changes to the law and whatever else.

If MangaDex goes legit then I assume it would be targeted at a wider audience than people wanting to fap and that would either require some content control or to make it a site oriented explicitely at adults (and even then people would complain about the loli porn).

Though I don't really know much about this topic so maybe I'm talking out of my ass and this is much more viable than what I think.

For what it's worth, I hadn't visited a single groups site until I started frequenting MD. I would read on a couple of the other sites like kiss manga and never even had a thought towards the groups translating. MD made me aware of them as their name is present on every chapter and they have their insert page in every chapter as well as delays. I don't mind visiting the sites but I won't even know of most of them if it wasn't for this site. Likely any of the groups that stop posting here I'll never visit their site again, not out of displeasure but more lack of exposure that MD provides. It seems to me if MD goes "legit" it would be smart to post and cultivate a following until then, however far away that is.

However I don't know what a group or individual translator/scantalator has to go through and I won't fault them for doing what they feel is best for them, Just giving a consumers POV.

Yeah, I could have done without the drama here.
From my perspective, MD already does a lot for scanlators. Groups can upload their chapters with delays, which when viewed early, redirect the viewers directly to scanlators' independent platforms.
If that's not enough, then pulling your chapters to entirely centralize is the next step, which MangaDex accommodates. Most other aggregator sites wouldn't even do that much on request.
I think there's some misplaced distrust in that rival groups can snipe chapters, but that's always been a potentiality and I think it's fine that MD takes an approach that doesn't favor the sniper or the sniped.
The comment sections are under-moderated and consequently, there's a lot of reader-scanlator hatred from anons. I do think MD could improve there.
Lastly, using MangaDex's future goal of becoming legitimate in a twisted, out-of-context manner doesn't seem right. Their future plans have little relation to the cause of the actions being taken by the groups here.

I don't know why people act as it was MD vs scanlator. Most MD staff is scanlator them self. Doki fansub, where MD originally come from has been around since 2008 and still doing translations to this day.

As for legality, umm. Doki doing lolicon porn, heck, the first series added to MD is lolicon porn. You guys think they will genuinely going legal with such circumstances? lOl

Also, the whole drama started when smaller older group snipe other groups works, then throw hissy at donations practice. The original groups asked to MD to punish the snipe which obviously MD is not following it up.

So at the end of the day, what i could i see is a more " work ownership" scanlation group is throwing hiss at smaller "it's not our works" scanlation group with MD is considered on the later side because they not following the first group request.

The rest of the argument is just filler to stronger argument from each side.

This "scanlation ownership " fighting has been a thing since old days and Will keep happening.
