In this case, there's a difference between wanting protagonists who are insane killers, and having the conviction to say, "Yeah, no, I'm not doing this. I get nothing out of this, and you don't just get to volunteer me to fight your battles because you're a moron who let your pride get in the way of your good sense. It's a goddamn hotel bedroom. If you're going get into fight over a room, you need to get your priorities straight. I don't care if I'm your summoned beast; pick your battles over something that matters. This is not a hill I'm going to die on for anybody."
I'm not a fan of people being killed for no reason, nor do I think it is wise to normalize killing.

But I think the sentiment expressed here is just you; most people will not walk away from having their property, however temporary, taken from them, by threat or otherwise.

If you did believe this, you wouldn't be able to own the items required to post in this forum; they would have been taken from you long ago.

Hey! NO.

The challenger NEVER EVER EVER, IN ALL OF RECORDED HISTORY, EVER gets to choose the format of the duel.

Never in all of history.

Either they...
• both make their own choices of weapons, or
• there is a set format for duels in society, or
• the person being challenged gets to choose the format.

These are all the basic options of really any society that is able to function for any length of time throughout human history.

I've been researching martial arts as a hobby for about 40 years, and I've actually studied the shit out of this, and it's really some bullshit to see such a rookie-ass mistake in a manga; Japan had a formal dueling code until 1945, so this seems like a really egregious mistake.

Like, duelling was legal when my dad was alive, dude; this isn't hard to get right.

(Countries that allowed the challenger to dictate the terms of a duel invariably fall within a generation or two; think about it)
