The "show, don't tell" phrase is bad advice. It depends entirely on context, and as you say, telling is often a lot faster (unless the image really is a thousand words). It's also a matter of detail, since you can almost always show more than what you're currently doing, like a child repeatedly asking "Why?", and by doing that iteratively you'll end up with something that goes into unnecessary details and tangents.

It's kind of like a lot of advice, like always cut away from you while doing woodwork or crafting, and never lift with your back. It kind of works if you don't know any better, but that also means you're not good enough to understand why it isn't always good advice and why you're probably going against it a lot of the time anyway without thinking about it.

Are you telling me that as if I didn't know, or clarifying for others? 'Cause I skipped that bit because I thought it was too obvious to comment on, and I'd already done so in my first post in this thread.

I refuse to count her as a valid love interest, especially not when he has a fiancee worried sick about him, and he now knows it even if he doesn't remember her.
