i thought the writer was a history buff, but maybe they just really liked the sengoku era generals and battles?

anyhow even really early japans currency was backed by rice, you can't eat gold but one coin (i don't remember the numeration) was worth one bag of rice, so she should really not have to explain anything.

Did she just invent mmt?
She 'invented' Fiat Currency, which is when money is no longer backed by gold or silver. You can no longer expect the government to exchange gold for your paper money, or to tie the value of paper money to an equivalence in gold.

This is not mmt, as mmt is one of many economic theories that have existed since fiat currency became widespread in the early 20th century. It's hard to say which economic theory Shizuku practices with the limited amount of information in the story. Going off her talk of using currency to control recessions or inflation, I'd say she's likely Keynesian.

So she has just completely given up on not changing history/ abusing her knowledge of the future then?
We crossed that line with those repeater rifles. A weapon of that caliber at the time of single shot muskets is insane. Especially in the hands of someone like Nobunaga.
Also fiat currency is a fantastic idea. It's basically impossible to do economic policy without it and contrary to popular belief, systems like the gold standard are anything but stable. I could post graphs about it, but frankly I just need to cite Bitcoin. The fact that entire industry basically spent its lifetime reinventing the wheel when it comes to currency will never stop being hilarious.
