I have never seen REAL people do the "she must be canadian" meme unironically.

Until now.

People REALLY didn't see the hints to this at all?
It probably wasn't exactly the main focus for a lot of people plus I've been so on and off this manga I pretty much have to re-read the manga again and I'm definitely not the only one.
All I remember about her was that she was the outgoing friend some boy develops a crush on. whether that was going anywhere or not didn't really matter to me. Even this chapter's development doesn't matter much to me. imo it also seems pretty late into the manga and the tone doesn't really help either. I'm sure people are shuffling through their hazy memories of her going "was this whole thing ever really implied that clearly?"

Mangaka write a yuri subplot without a fucking heartbroken woman challenge (impossible)

For God's sake! I hate this! I want this type of subplot to burn! Go to hell! I don't even like yuri!
Introducing the concept of 2 lesbians in your city of 30 million people and 200+ chapters of manga challenge impossible

...I mean, I'd argue that she isn't lesbian but instead bi.

Because of what everyone else has been saying. Like, she clearly still loves Futaba a lot, but at least has matured enough where she isn't as overwhelmed by it like it's shown here.

She has shown some affection for the little brother, so that's something
pedophilia + trying to fill the void of her loved person, but still something
. And it does seem to be more about how he is than about wether he is girly or manly or not.

I still don't think she is into yuuta romantically. I think she just likes the attention. If anything she sees him more like a puppy than a potential love interest

It was as subtle as a brick to the head
No, the other two adult/adult relationships were "as subtle to a brick to the head".

Not all of us are shipping war vets.

A puppy? As opposed to a kid?

It isn't that serious, but when people bring up the idea that she sees Yuuto as a replacement friend to fill the void, or a "puppy", I hope they're also coming up with those ideas with some bile.

Well now it's official... I feel a little bit bad for natsumi, seeing beloved futaba going to another person. But my biggest question is, what impact this reveal will have on the relationship of natsumi and the boy. I hope it won't be ingnored

Huh. Guess she is a lesbian deeply in love with Futuba. We in the business call that "deeply unfortunate".

A companion suspicion is that on top of having an unrequited affection for Futaba, Natsumi was coping with that by using Yuuto as a replacement.

But that's just meanspirited.

Regardless of whether she had an affection for Futaba, that isn't flattering, charming, heartwarming, or even sympathetic. That's just sad for Yuuto. The unrequited affection is heavy enough, but the replacement friend idea is just uncharacteristically dark-- for her character and the comic.
Yknow i didnt think about Yuuto being a poor man's replacement to fill the void left by Futaba.
That's really rather fucked up if so.

I hope he is not a widow, man. That would explain why he does not pay attention to love or as to why he told Futaba that he would look for company if she ever got a boyfriend.
Am I going too far here?

Holy shit. I'd be blown away by that plot twist, but I'd love it.

Let's think positive-- it's very unlikely that this would be the case, considering that she was mature enough to support her friend in her love, which is growth from her sentiment in this chapter.

That, and that kind of reveal would introduce an excessively and uncharacteristically heavy dramatic element to her character (and the comic as a whole) that would additionally annihilate her likability and make her look like a nuclear-hot mess-- especially considering that it'd also be an ironically premised action, since Futaba never considered her anything less than her dear friend even though Natsumi felt as if they were drifting apart as they grew older.

I also can't imagine any satisfying way to segue into such a twist. Even this chapter was an omake.

That's me. I read the manga years ago, and I've been reading it irregularly since then... quite honestly, I don't remember seeing hints from her being a lesbian (or bisexual for the matter). I didn't read too much into the previous chapter because she didn't say anything particularly weird... so I interpreted it as the good ol' "take care of my best friend".

It seems some were eagerly waiting for a different conclusion/rooting for the Yuri route. But I mean, shippers are gonna ship and I never pay attention to that kind of people. Besides, this chapter is an old extra and is not related to the previous one whatsoever.
