Well, he is right that he would be better if he emancipates himself. It's not like he is getting help for any of his problems from his parents, just sustenance that he could earn for himself with a job

Weird... I'm actually seeing a glimmer of hope here. His bros are always there for him, he's got a goal in mind (get out and become independent), his relationship with Kanon seems to be in a, uh... less unstable position. Maybe our boy can turn things around and get his act together?

Ah yes, the classic toxic parent argument: I did the bare minimum for you so now you're supposed to act like a prisoner with no rights and never talk back.

Absolute disgrace of a father.

Hope Kanon and the friends can pull him out of this dark hell hole.

Suspended for something that didn't even happen at school? Stupid system, and zero tolerance policies are BS
It really does not make any sense, the person assaulted is not a student or even affiliated with the school, so why inform them?
The fight never even occurred on school grounds also how is that a suspendable???? Especially when it was in self defense???????

I Had a very shitty Dad (I'm 48, and I like to read manga).

So when I was 4, my dad beat my mom awfully. I remember with my twin brother (back then around 4 or 5) we bite our dad, then he left the house, only to be raised by our mom. He was selfish. I remember him giving me booze when I was kid, and to be honest, the few times I met him afterwards, I just felt an empty void that will never be filled.

Now that I have kids, I give to them all the love I never had from my dad. Since I didn't had a paternal figure, growing up came with a challenge of not having some right decisions, and sometimes those derivate from a over-protective mom.

So, if you are still young and thinking about being a parent, it comes with all sort of challenges, but never stop loving your children (and your wife).

So, back to the manga, the dad probably never had an inch of love for his family. Poor MC, I feel for him. Good thing he has good friends around to worry about him.

In japan is very common to get on a police station when you get in any sort of violent conduct, and even in self defense, japanese doesn't condone any sort of violence, so a suspension was the light treatment here.

It has to do with the whole culture of saving face and promoting public peace in Japan and many East Asian countries.

The school has a certain image to maintain and so they punish students who may harm said image (in this case, getting involved with police for a violent altercation), even if what happened was outside school grounds and the other party wasn't a student.

He actually got off pretty easy. A 1 week suspension is not the worst punishment.

Japanese culture is a huge mess - Low childbirth, honor system, work till you die and parents don't love their kids. No wonder Japanese as a whole is going extinct because they hide their own problem and refuse to acknowledge the entire system is f up until it is too late. As for scumbag dad, he can go f himself.

More of an Asian culture thing where they place heavy emphasis on reputation rather than who's right. It's why Japan's defamation laws are bullshit. It doesn't matter if you're factually truthful or not, just whether you have cause reputational damage.

Not only that but their economy has been in decline for a decade now but they have buried their head in the sand about it. You can track it by the value of the yen vs the dollar.
