I really REALLY want to see Komaki broken. I think the best way for this if for Wakaba to not hate her but not care for her so that Komaki wouldn't get her "special" relationship she is after and would instead have nothing to do with Wakaba
Dunno why you're the first person I've seen mention this, because that's exactly how I see it going.
Komaki is fully in on the sunk-cost of having to make Wakaba hate her to affirm her need for a "special & unique relationship" with the love of her life. Sadly, this has fully warped into this toxic hate-fest, but, that's the character we're presented with.
And the way it breaks, is not for Wakaba to get angry and violent like so many people are calling for - that just feeds into Komaki's desire for hate from her, and will only further enable this behavior because it's a form of what she seeks.
Wakaba has to write her off. Ignore her texts, don't respond or look her way at school. Give her no time, and if cornered, just commit to the "I just don't care anymore, live your life but leave me out of it" mindset.
Komaki wants love via hate. The inverse of both of those is indifference and abandonment.
That is what would snap Komaki out of this, and get her to come around and resolve this character arc and see them ultimately together.
I can't comment on whether they make a
good pairing. This is toxic yuri, and if people don't like that from the outset, then them's the breaks, but I would be very surprised if Wakaba ends up with anyone other than Komaki in the end, even if it's a timeskip with Komaki deprogramming her toxic impulses and learning to be more well-adjusted around Wakaba.
But before that point, we need to see Komaki faced with the reality of her First Love fully abandoning her in favor of other friends. I fully expect that is the next arc, and Komaki coming undone when she realizes that everything she'd worked toward has backfired on her, because she expected Wakaba to continue being kind (even if that took the form of anger and hatred pointed at her)--and when she's not, Komaki will be pushed over the edge and broken, moving them both into the final act of the story (I assume, haven't read the source material to know how much longer this might go on--at the very least into the point where Komaki improves her outlook and behavior toward Wakaba and herself).
