i kinda understand why shima felt disappointed with mitsumi’s answer on what she liked about him. i too thought she’d probably speak about his real clumsy character rather than the friendly facade he puts on. i read the rest of the chapter hoping she might have mentioned it during their walk but she didn’t. it did feel a bit empty. in the end tho, that’s for shima to work on as a person and im glad he at least recognizes that

I think her answer is lackluster on purpose, because she's trying not to make shima uncomfortable, right ? She really wants to act like they're just friends... I think a 'deeper' answer would make it seem like she still has feelings for him ?? Hmm

It's obvious from our POV that Shima has feelings for mitsumi now, but from her perspective, he wasn't very considerate when they were in a relationship... So I think she's completely unaware that he's really NOT over her right now and tried to give him a diplomatic answer ?

The issue which Shima has with his self-esteem lowkey reminded me of Touko in Bloom into you. Both of them believe their kind facade is fake and their current self doesn't exist. While Touko couldn't accept people's love for her, Shima put himself lower than people around him, especially nice people whom he respected and liked.

somehow i hoped this date would stretch on longer 😭 mitsumi is a gem for sure, i wonder when the author will let shima be comfortably vulnerable to mitsumi. i appreciate the many sides of love that the author portrayed which is wanting to better yourself.

Here's the fucked up thing: Even if to you, on the inside, being kind is 'a front' or 'because you want people to like you'... it actually still matters to other people that you were kind and considerate. Because that's what they experienced.

But that being said, I think getting to the level of realizing that he wants to be a better person to match how he feels about her.... thats growth, baybee.

"I'll catch up" instead of "wait for me" is charming, too. He knows how far she can go...
