@kuroro86 Please, it wasn't even the whole chapter. This was a slightly short chapter befitting the fact that it's no longer exactly monthly. It took half of such a chapter to impart important information, information which will not be elaborated at least to this extent again (and instead of your speculation, this is based on how such info has been treated in this manga so far). The chapter then took another half explaining Kumoko's worries and anxieties, from the fact that another Reincarnator (and this one specifically too) has it easier than her, to her parallel wills not being parallel. Things which will also form the basis of her future character. Even the Vampire info, it's from Kumoko's perspective which is also a key point. It's forming the basis for how she perceives and thinks about the System. It's not just exposition for exposition's sake.

You say I should not criticize those who don't like what I like, but that implies the stuff I am responding to is a matter of "like". It's all more the kind of "this is bad, this sucks", a universal criticism. I am perfectly happy to point out that that is indeed what the problem is, that this manga approaches the series in a way some people may not like. That should not give them carte blanche to declare that the writing is poor.

@Oeconomist And therefore, on the topic of said style, you're actually contradicting yourself right there. You say that the adaptation needs to be structured with awareness of the schedule of release. Isn't it? This series now roughly comes out quickly than a month. The vast majority of readers in Japan of this web series have already either read the WN or LN, because it's just that popular. The people who only read the manga, likely discuss this series with people who have, much like how even this comment section is, only more pronounced. Therefore this manga needs to offer something different from the novels, while also imparting as much of the same degree of information, in a way that also suits the legacy readers.

So isn't it already structured properly with the situation in mind? Releasing roughly fortnightly chapters to this structure. There is no overtly painful wait for the next chapter, versus novel release schedules. There is the bare minimum of exposition still in place. There is a visual sparkle applied to what was merely written before. It is all of those things.

But hey, half the people here don't even realize it's not a monthly anymore, even as they read it the moment it pops up on their feed. If they can't even keep track of even that time, how would I expect them to offer any good criticism of the manga's structure?

And for the record, when I talked about leechers, I am not commenting on the value of fan translations. I do personally agree it helps the industry, and I am also one of those who buys licensed works after I read them online. But while there are others like us, there aren't many compared to the number of people who just leech. In combination with what I said above about the target audience, what I can't stand is this group criticizing a series that is 1. Not meant for them and they refuse to acknowledge it, 2. that they have no intention of supporting no matter how good it is, and 3. can't even keep their basis from criticism, such as release schedule, factually correct. I find it reprehensible enough that I have no issue calling people out as leeching ingrates, only tempered with the knowledge that such leechers ultimately have no real impact on this series.

No. I'm certainly not contradicting myself. The fact that the series now comes-out faster does change the fact that the amount of development typical each chapter was too slow under the previous schedule; that nothing has been effected to offset that previous slow development; and that development remains too slow even now. Part of what this chapter did was to retell past events that would not have been forgot by the vast majority of readers; that retelling should have been further compressed or discarded. I admit that I don't know how much of the information added in this chapter will prove to have been necessary to deliver at some point, but given its delivery now and the present pacing that information will have been forgot by most readers before it is relevant. The business of the cadavers of the bandits could have been handled in fewer panels. Dispensing with the redundant would provide space for advancing the story further than it was.

I see no reason to agree that the adaptation should impart everything found in the LN or in the WN. I've read or watched adaptations of stories with which I'm very familiar, and thought Will you get on with it?!? because the adaptation was too damn'd slow, in some cases because it was preserving elements that weren't worth the cost.

I think that the pacing is probably less determined by artistic considerations than by a calculation about what will extract the most money from the market. And, yes, they're entitled to do that, but readers are entitled to complain.

It could be fair to say that you were a bit too loose in your original remarks; most of us and certainly I sometimes are; but please note the word that I underscored when quoting you.

The hell are you preaching about? Are you trying to convince others or yourself? The pacing of many modern LN manga adaptations is often awkward because very few mangaka can translate the medium properly and this one ain't an exception. I remember there were some issues with Kumo Desu manga since the beginning, but no one was getting so butthurt over this. So, what has changed?

After vol 9 and 10 I'm completely expecting spider gachimuchi to happen at some point because goddamn Shiro and D act like a S&M couple.

Yeah, but the base of your comment about the slow pacing is because they just introduced a new main character 50 chapters in. One Piece introduced a new character 440 chapters in. JoJo introduced a new main character 70 chapters in. Avatar introduced a new main character 26th episodes in. And I rarely see people talked about how these shows have slow pacing (well, maybe One piece of you look at it from overall perspective).

My point is, Kumo's slow pace isn't because of it introducing a new Main Character after 50 chapters. It's because other things such as the low page count for it to be a bi-monthly series, for example.

I like how Kumoko is more worried about that baby more than anything else, I certainly wasn't expecting the parallel wills to start disagreeing with each other

@Brutu Those examples have new character introduced either after an arc is finished or is in the "beginning". As this manga is still ongoing, it can't afford the same hindsight.

Well technically the dungeon arc just finished, so now it's a new arc starting. But regardless I predicted the manga would have this kind of issue once she was out of the dungeon. Welp, back to reading the LNs for me.

@Muklas
oh yeah same here. but volume 10's ending is already implying at Shiro trying to take steps to become D to increase her hate boner at this point... xD

@DANDAN_THE_DANDAN to be honest, what should've been done was to publish another manga adaptation concentrating the other side of the story.
the manga currently has started adapting the early parts of Volume 6, which has totally temporarily drop any story telling of the other side of the coin to concentrate on Kumoko here.

here is a quad-layered spoiler tag if you want a little bit of info on the other side of the story.
you can ignore this if you want
the other side of the story concentrates on the "classmates" of Kumoko, namely Schlain the 4th Prince of Aneleit Kingdom. His discovery of his newfound life, meeting other classmates back from his previous life and how they got screwed over by the indirect and direct consequences of Kumoko's actions.

it's in the generic harem side but it is surprisingly tame about it and it is not hard to digest the ongoing relationship between characters. It's actually surprising how the author managed to make it enjoyable to read their parts more than lot of Kumoko's struggles.

The part of their story have been sidelined after volume 5 after encountering a very hype inducing enemy. Leaving a HUGE cliffhanger on their side while we're distracted by the Author continuing Kumoko's adventure meeting Sophia/Shouko and the subsequent developments that will lead as to why the Schlain events in Volume 5 happened.

@Oeconomist Then if I simply amend it to "most", you would have no issue? Let's not dance around an essentially semantic point. It's not very far from "all", sales of licensed manga for series of comparable popularity compared to even a strictly conservative tally of unique views for the same series online shows not even 1% come back to buy tanks. Comment sections such as these will naturally have a larger proportion of people who are interested and invested enough to buy, but even then, a quick look around shows a clear minority.

And saying it's a calculation to profit more off the market doesn't make sense, unless you also make the further assumption that it is both a very poor attempt and ill-timed. This series releases for free officially online. Meaning the sales mainly come from tanks. The anime is airing soon, and the manga should be racing to cover the new arc rather then stick around on what the anime is likely to cover. Because it doesn't make sense to cannibalize each other on the same content, which is why both anime and manga adaptations when released concurrently often heavily lag behind one or the other. Usually it's the manga that lags behind, thanks to a naturally slower release rate, but that's not the case here.

This is also furthered by the fact that what you just got was itself a basically truncated version of something else, which are major spoilers. But I am not going to hold that against anyone since that is impossible for first time readers to realize. Yet I still feel there is an outsized reaction to honestly a non-issue especially considering the target audience. At least a minority here have noticed a few key details about the Vampire, the nature of skills, the problem with the parallel wills, her humanity, etc, all relevant plot points, without getting hung up on the "exposition", but it's a really small minority, which annoys and saddens me. I will even say the emphasis on the bodies is relevant. But I honestly feel stupid saying that, I shouldn't even need to justify such a point.

@KittoKitto So it is perfectly normal then, for people to keep bashing this series for years, increasing in intensity, and refuse to drop it all the same? My point of view even gives the benefit of the doubt that all these commenters had no issue with the series earlier. But if you want to say it had such issues from the beginning then it is ridiculous to see people endlessly complain about said issues YEARS later with increasing vitriol. Some of the comments here are pure gold, like "OH NO, they introduced a new main character after 50 chapters. WHO DOES THAT?".....really?

Some people just can't enjoy things they're reading, like some whiny masochists. If this one made them seethe about "stalling", I imagine the next 2-4+ chapters will drive them mad.
