@Christopher yes it's quite visible later on even in novel that author is quite inexperienced when it comes to story telling. @mongol13 i don't think u are right about jack the ripper subplot. In novel they showed MC starting to realize smth important about him while here it was watered down completly

This isn't just about this one scene (although this scene alone is very telling about the author going forward). There is one subplot that is hugely critical to the story, but its treated in the same fashion. Can you imagine going 300 chapters waiting on a huge development only for the payoff to be a couple inconsequential paragraphs??? Well, lucky for you... you get to see just that in another 200 chapters.
