Homare x Shion is a really nice ship. I’ve seen so many flags that they’re into eachother throughout the series, but they’ve mostly been downplayed. If I had to guess, the author wants to reap yuri appeal without upsetting het fans. I doubt it’ll go beyond bait, or subtext, and if it does it will only be towards the conclusion of the series.

@pharoahmutt This is an archetypal nakama power + generic ecchi situation for an all-female manga. You can compare it with the image of male platonic relationships in shoujo, especially Free, where officially “friendship” border on poorly repressed homosexuality. Of course, only the author and editor can know about the true intentions of the story, but my experience says that we should be skeptical about such a style. In general, at the moment this is a very standard fanservice-ish image of friendship between characters of the one sex for an audience of the opposite sex. But in general, you are right, only the end of the manga can make any of the interpretations a canon.

@Superoniichan Yep. There have been some pretty heavy implications, which leaves plenty of room for shipping and the like, but whether or not any of it will become canon? Well, that’s iffy at best. I’ll personally be fine whether or not anything actually becomes canon, so long as nothing is shoed in unnaturally (be it yuri or het). We’ll just have to wait and see what sort of route the author will take.
