I bet "ANIA" is an acronym of the agency which performed experiments on her.
Nah, her name actually used to be Ania in the first few chapters, Loid was Lloyd and Yor was Yoru (can't remember that one off the top of my head) then Tatsuya Endo changed their names in English to what they are now
Oh wow. Nice connection there!slightly inaccurate. I know the editor that was working on this series for the first dozen chapters (freelancer for YKS still doing work on other M+ titles!) Technically correct in that Endo did make their names be changed, but inaccurate with the implication that he changed his mind about the names later on when in reality he never knew about it.
Fuller story: The translator working on it at the time originally had the names translated as Lloyd and Yoru, but when the author heard about that he made them change the names to Loid and Yor instead. Anya was perfectly fine and was never changed though, despite her name on the door saying Ania the whole time, so I wonder if this .5 chapter is just kindof poking fun at that whole situation. (a short while after this, Viz brought the series in-house and redid all of their original work so now the only way to see my friend's efforts is on other/non-MD 3rd party sites...which is kinda funny and sad at the same time. Hugely popular series that blew up and he used to work on it, but the only way to see it is in unofficial places where people who don't know the story can claim that it was a scanlator that did it instead and that's why its different from the "official release" that's currently available, lmao)
So yeah, to reiterate: Endo-san didn't originally have their names as Lloyd and Yoru, it was a call made by the translator at the time and they were forced to change them about a dozen chapters in
