That's... actually quite reasonable.
Rather than suddenly leading a revolution, he could have tried explaining things to her.
Mia would eventually understood, even if he had to do it multiple times because of how lacking her common sense was.
She could do things differently then.
Mia wasn't actually evil, afterall.

But then again we would miss Guillotine-chan.

Yep, she was a selfish, self-centered, and ignorant girl, but then, can you really expect any different from someone who readily acknowledges that her father is so doting upon her that he's willing to go to war essentially just because Mia wanted a special jewelry box?

If someone had actually taken the time to explain to her what was going on in a non-condescending manner (which was where Ludwig failed in the previous timeline), she would have figured things out, even if it took a few attempts; hell, if Sion was the one doing it, she would have latched onto his every word solely because she had a crush on him and it'd mean he was paying attention to her.

The biggest problem in the previous timeline isn't just that Mia was selfish and ignorant, but that the three who would go on to lead the revolution gave up on Mia far too quickly, because their own personalities are kinda lacking (at least as I see it based on how they're presented in the manga):
  • Tiona started out with a chip on her shoulder against Tearmoon nobility (which obviously extends to royalty) because of how her family was treated, so she was already prepared to see the worst in Mia, which was exacerbated, again, by Mia being her selfish, self-absorbed self.
  • Sion is honestly basically the Lawful Stupid Paladin D&D players never want in their party, because they believe justice and righteousness trumps everything and that those who don't adhere to it are scum.
  • Rafina, despite genuinely caring for the well-being of lower class folk, very much comes across as an almost "holier-than-thou" type of character when dealing with nobility and expects everyone to live up to her standards or be cast aside into the trash bin; the kind of person that would equate casual neglect borne of ignorance (like Mia and her disregard for everyone) with actual malice and contempt (like the kind of nobles that would invoke primae noctis).

this 100% she was a selfish and ignorant person who indirectly caused suffering to her people by not doing anything but that doesn't mean she should be killed before especially given they never even TRIED to talk reason into her and just let her become a worse and worse person. It's so sad when you start piece together the whole story because it's not so untrue to real life either

Ironically, his method actually worked. She remembered almost all of his words and noted everything down on her diary out of spite, which subsequently appeared right next to her in this timeline just so that she can recite everything back to him. She's been plagiarizing Ludwig all the way but the victim would have no way to know that lol.

But sadly in that timeline, it was already too late by the time Ludwig met Mia. Their reputation has tanked, nobles scurrying away to save themselves, epidemic, famine... not even an isekai protagonist would be able to save the empire.

the thing to add to this that makes Sion, Tiona and Rafina's choice to have Mia killed is made even worse considering later bits revealed in the LN.
It is revealed that with everything that was going on with the Empire's decline and the revolution just about to begin, Mia was desperate to figure out anything to get food to the people, even going so far as to throw her dignity as the Princess of the Empire away to beg a merchant that was infamous for screwing people with the prices for food. It's part of why Ludwig towards the end of the original timeline held so much respect and loyalty for Mia, he saw that even with all her faults and issues with her personality, she legitimately cared about the people and was putting in the effort that she needed to once she finally understood the situation.

Ludwig sees that once Mia knows the situation, she will put her effort into things, which is something we see is true even in the current timeline. While most of what she does is for herself, she is still putting all her effort into things.
