Sion is a monumental dick.
He even knew she was innocent and still did it in the first timeline. And proceeded to keep on doing it in future timelines
I think it was even noted by the original timeline Ludwig that the famine situation was actually slowly improving, but the plague and the revolution that followed ruin everything. Seriously, Mia's diary is that important. But sadly in that timeline, it was already too late by the time Ludwig met Mia. Their reputation has tanked, nobles scurrying away to save themselves, epidemic, famine... not even an isekai protagonist would be able to save the empire.
Holy fuck now I'm drown in tears. Poor past Miathe thing to add to this that makes Sion, Tiona and Rafina's choice to have Mia killed is made even worse considering later bits revealed in the LN.
It is revealed that with everything that was going on with the Empire's decline and the revolution just about to begin, Mia was desperate to figure out anything to get food to the people, even going so far as to throw her dignity as the Princess of the Empire away to beg a merchant that was infamous for screwing people with the prices for food. It's part of why Ludwig towards the end of the original timeline held so much respect and loyalty for Mia, he saw that even with all her faults and issues with her personality, she legitimately cared about the people and was putting in the effort that she needed to once she finally understood the situation.
Ludwig sees that once Mia knows the situation, she will put her effort into things, which is something we see is true even in the current timeline. While most of what she does is for herself, she is still putting all her effort into things.
also the novel kinda revealed that the founding father of the tearmoon empire is kinda a asshole beyond the graveyard even Mia think that's stupidAlso, we now know the revolution was manufactured to some extent, so they actually were tools of someone with nefarious purposes while thinking they were righteous.
this brings me solace.Yep... it is why I am glad he
was also miserable and alone and forever haunted by Ludwig's anger and disgust toward him to his death bed
I was so moved at Ludwig's master last lesson to Ludwig.the thing to add to this that makes Sion, Tiona and Rafina's choice to have Mia killed is made even worse considering later bits revealed in the LN.

I disagree, if you recall the chapter 31 page 11 and 12, in this case before to the renmo revolutionThe reason she was killed in the previous timeline wasn't because of any crimes she commited, but simply because in a revolution against a feudal system, everyone that could come back later with a claim gets executed. She was a princess but never really in a position of authority. She asked for things and they were given to her, but she wasn't in charge of anything.
Which makes Sion's actions even weirder, because generally feudal lords don't like that kind of revolution next door, lest their own subjects get the same idea. For him to lead it is insane. Also, we now know the revolution was manufactured to some extent, so they actually were tools of someone with nefarious purposes while thinking they were righteous.
there's a lot with why he was involved, and it's stemmed from how Sunkland's mindset it, which was kind of touched in this chapter but is a bit more explored in the LN.The reason she was killed in the previous timeline wasn't because of any crimes she commited, but simply because in a revolution against a feudal system, everyone that could come back later with a claim gets executed. The anime was more heavily based on the manga in the first half, while the second half is more based on the LN, so they had to come up with how things looked and played out. As an adaption of the LN for that stuff, it was fine, but it also resulted in a lot of things being skimmed or missed.Even though I already saw this in the anime I'm somehow liking it a bit better here. Maybe it's the art? The anime wasn't very good looking towards the end
wow, reading all the spoilers make me want to see more Sion and Tiona and Rafina bashing, especially in the previous timeline.
anw, thanks for the chapter!!!
that stuff is also in the LN so not really just WN spoilers anymoreBig WN spoilers for this but Sion basically becomes a diehard practitioner of his sense of justice, leading to a rift between Sion and Tiona as well; they don't get together or even talk afterwards and both end up really lonely IIRC. I don't think Rafina is mentioned in the previous timeline post-execution, but after the Mia Guillotine arc, a new timeline sprouts where we learn Rafina has become a belligerent overzealous crusader tyrant aimed at eradicating the true antagonists of the series.
