This started off really good but kind of silly now, just dodge or counter the initial kick instead of whatever this turned into smh

Yeah coming from smash I was like, "is he going to dodge down?"

Not sure if SF has that in-spot dodging, though I also wonder when parrying will show its face (since wouldn't a jump + parry be a perfect counter? Is that a thing?)

half expecting Kyle to hit the Nemo handshake after he wins this match

Funnily enough, while Nemo is well known for his hatred of grapplers, he's doing decently rn with Alex in SF6, the latest grappler to be added to the game

SF3 allowed characters to parry in the air, and it can be helpful against grapplers! Although at the same time it also means a decent grappler player can take more risks jumping to get in on the opponent lol. As for spot dodges, fighting games like Fatal Fury and Granblue Fantasy Versus feature them but they're definitely more limited than what Smash dodges can allow in some games (usually can't be done in the air, for one), and are generally still vulnerable to grabs

thanks for the chapter!

That's not really how it works. Yeah, you can dodge the initial hit, but usually, those moves that lead into 50-50s are often low commitment, even if you see it coming. The starter she's using looks like a heavy neutral, which tend to have a lot of range, and considering that it's very plus on hit, it either doesn't have a lot of endlag or a lot of startup. A lot of games tend to have these kinds of things, and while you can usually manage them after seeing it, it's not something super easy to avoid the first time. Ask anyone who lost to pre-Nerf Potemkin or May (although hers is admittedly a bit of a noob farmer).
