This reminds me that at one point I used to very much have that specific strategy in mind, where I wouldn't focus on optimized play or anything, but rather to learn specifically what each individual opponent hated the most. I haven't thought about playing that way in a while, maybe I should give it a try again

Yeah, it definitely got me some wins against players that are "better" than me on paper. Like, I'd go over and watch them play others before me in bracket, and be like, "oh ok so they seem to get hit by X approach most of the time, and they seem to panic when in Y situation", and then I'd just spam doing that for most of the game. Definitely works, but you can't help but feel somewhat abusive

You're not a real pro until you can out-cheese the cheese.
I can't count the times I won in PvP (not fighting games, other types) because the opponent could not adapt the "meta" strategy to a guy who'd just spam attacks randomly with no tactics.
