Well that's how discrimination works. They probably don't even see it as an issue. A study of discrimination and racism is downright depressing in how baseless, thoughtless and apathetic it is.

Also for those wondering why they didn't figure out that he was a noble:
He took the wrong exam and the one that was in charge of checking who he was and such didn't actually do it. Instead he pushed him through. He's most likely just a number on the answer sheet and, since he's a commoner, they couldn't be bothered to actually find out who he was. Not to mention that last names are most often given the medieval equivalent status. So a common boy is not going to have a last name unless it's a patronymic or occupation based one. Such as John Joesson or John (the) Farmer. Most likely this series has the last name completely non-existent for commoners (as is popular in JP fantasy series) and so, even if his name is on the answer sheet, it would just be his first name.

A bit contrived, but I kinda like the angle they took with this. Like, yeah yeah OP and standout exam results trope, but also, they slipped him into the commoner section just to pick at the flaws in the system.

All things considered, it's not like they unfairly cut down his score or anything either, they just inflated the affluent children to avoid offending them.

What a shitty school. Everyone working there should be fired (and publicly executed) for not even double-checking nor taking care of making sure people are assigned correct classes. They caused the fuck-up by being incompetent in handling the students papers, so they deserve to lose their jobs AND any credibility they ever had.

It's explained a bit more in the novel. Aside everyone is being hurry and a little accident where all the documents are mixed up, making them incapable to do background check, the Commoner registration form also doesn't have family name, so they wouldn't know he was a noble only by his first name.

@lurker123 well, I've seen more extravagant plays made with the stupid ball. Disappointing, but I wasn't reading this for the first class storytelling anyway.

Wait until the King informed the Principal of who Cain is. The guy who proposed to use the practical points to boost both the princess and the marquess' daughter will be dead, the principal will make sure of it.

It looks like the school grades and judges based on the number system. So to them he isn't Cain, he's student 285. That type of system is good for preventing bias from seeping into the grading of individual students. The real problem is that the Princess and Duke's daughter are getting preferential treatment.

What's discouraging for me is that the teacher in charge of the exam seemed to be attentive and fair for the most part until the very end. She didn't scold him for sleeping after finishing his exam, she just advised him to double check his answers. She didn't accuse him of cheating or anything when he blew up the target during magic practice. She just passed him and moved him over to swordsmanship. When it became obvious that the sword test was getting out of hand, she immediately stopped it and thought about the well being of the other students taking the exam. Then at the end she's all like "we have a great student, but unfortunately he's a commoner."

Where the heck did that come from?
It doesn't fit with what she was doing earlier and ends up being kind of confusing unless there is a policy to report that type of anomaly.

Also why would she need to inform the headmaster that the student was a commoner. They know she was the person in charge of the commoners exam. It should have been an obvious conclusion from the start that any students that she had would be a commoner. It's strange that she had to point out that distinction in the first place. Unless she is the person in charge of grading all exams. Anyway since the next chapter will be live soon I'll wait to read the conclusion before I say anything else.

@Mephis_to

im not sure if im right.
but he likely only used his first name when he signed up for school, just like what he did at the adventurer guild.
Thus people think he is a commoner.
That or there was a mess up with him going to the wrong place or the entry ticket got sorted wrong when the office worker fell.

The whole "use a beginner spell that turns into an overpowered display" trope is something that I feel needs to be subverted. I feel like this is something that really shows the level of superficial wish fullfillment power fantasy of these novels. It's not necessarily bad, just overdone.

Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy this trope and love wish-fullfillment. It's just that as I've grown as a reader and given my own go at writing a novel, I can see how this is a cliche which serves only to emphasis the OPness of the MC.

I'd love it if the MC was rebuted in that he has a lot of potential due to his mana capacity and magic strength, but his lack of restraint, control, and awareness of his own power makes his OPness not a completely good thing to be in awe of and praise as genius godking talent. It'd be a source of both interest and concern that has a need for specialized instruction and close attention due to raw potential and possible dangers.

If you were killing monsters for material like leather, this level of overkill would ruin any chance at obtaining the material. Plus in a spar, it could be a deadly problem if the MC can't tone down his power.

There's more to magic than raw power. Overkill is a bad thing especially if it causes unnecessary property damage.

Oh boy, the start of a school arc in isekai. These always end up being bad.
