I'm sorry, I didn't read the LN, didn't see the anime but, I just found that story all on my own and I'm a bit confused. Are these people like... really dumb ? I mean "nah we can't have a ruler that doesn't have magical power because that would put the country in turmoil... Let's try to make an IMMORTAL QUEEN that's not even from our family instead, I'm sure that would work much better" ??? like... bruh. The country doesn't seems to be AGAINST same sex marriage and relationships, so... Idk, maybe crown Anis Queen, and make Euphie the Queen Regent ? So Anis can keep doing what she does, and Euphie is the de facto ruler of the country?
Like... it's not even that hard to imagine, things like that HAPPENED historicaly in OUR world.
And I hear you, "what about the heir ?"... well.. This country doesn't seems to be against adoption so, they still could adopt a kid and educate him to be the heir, that would go MUCH better than just drop a random noble on the throne like that.
And even then: HER BROTHER IS STILL ALIVE, That means he could have a kid. They could still adopt THAT kid and make him the LEGITIMATE heir.

Iirc reason why Euphy needs to be a spirit contractor is because in Palettia tradition is everything and being spirit literally grants you everything. Spirits are Palettia's own version of Christianity. Even if Anis take the throne she will not be taken seriously and will be use as a pawn by the nobles not to mention that Anis wouldn't have time for her magicology anymore because of queenly duties. And being a contractor iirc also helps in smoothly adopting Euphy in the royal family. So basically if Anis take the throne she'll be very unhappy = Euphy hates that. So she became a spirit contractor in order to make Anisphia's dream happened. Because in Palettia criticizing a spirit is blasphemy and Euphy will use that to uno reverse the nobles and their shitty games. I hear you tho i actually want Anis to rule too 😔
Nah sorry, not buying it. Yes, I know that religion is important, but there is CLEARLY unrest in the country. Anis is well loved by the people, so that would be a way to avoid a revolution. And that's why I said that Anis would be the Queen, but she could make Euphy the REGENT, so basicaly Anis would be a Queen only by name, while all states affairs would be dealt with by Euphy, who is clearly more cut to the role. BUT making someone that's not from your family the REAL Queen, and not only that, but making her IMMORTAL ??? That's a recipe for disaster, and yes I stand my ground, a dumb idea. There is no way nobles would take that well, and even less the common folks.
That might be true but Euphy is not some common noble she's from the noblest family in Palettia, second only to the royal family. Hence the reason why she was made fiance of the crown prince in the first place. The immortality is not the main point but the privilege of being an spirit covenant. Everyone in Palettia reveres the spirit whether you're a royal, noble or a commoner. So i think what the author is trying to highlight here is the difference in power between Anisphia who is considered heretic and Euphyllia who is considered noble. And Anis did said that she will need to have a consort (husband) if she ever rule as a queen. Because there's no way that the nobility would let her act the way she wanted to. Meanwhile in the novel after Euphy became Queen, she was able to reject the nobles about not accepting any consort without much clash. Honestly, you will understand how much Anis is hated by the nobility once you read the novel. And that no matter her achievements and how the people loved her she would always have a struggle when it comes to political affairs.
And iirc the nobles and the common folks did take it well. Especially the nobles who were actually overjoyed by the fact that a spirit covenant is reigning queen (i know they're annoying 🙄) Although some common folks wanted to see Anis rule. Even Euphy's father wanted to see Anis rule. But yeah for the sake of magicology and Anisphia's dream, Euphy did reign as queen.
