I'm not bothered by the EVIL trope going on here (I just find it funny how many times the term is used lol), I'm just really tired of this particular story arc and how LONG we've spent fighting this old man who's largely just stood there while everyone shouts attack names at him. I understand this months-long arc is partially because of how the translation releases have happened (and that's fine, transaltion takes a while), but even without that this story arc that started with magic corruption being cured by curry buns has gotten out of hand length and pacing-wise.

Now we wait and see how the evil evilly evlling evil man of evilly evilness reacts to it. Something evil is my guess.

Try re-read again from when they're arrived on Barbara. I re-read it last month during hiatus and I didn't felt any scene are just to pad out without any important to the narrative.
It felt that way because it's bi-monthly release and sometimes the mangaka have to take a break too.

As much as I wasn't expecting it I was hoping we'd get a page with the blue light the LN describes, just because adding a bit of color to an otherwise black and white scene can add a ton of emphasis
