So... making the music was just a selfish desire. She ignored friends, family, responsibilities, relationships, love, work, and everything for months because "It's what I wanted to hear. It's for my own satisfaction."

Wow... and why are supposed to like her again? Ignore her being a cute girl for a second. These types of people, the starving artist who doesn't care about the world around them are the worst human beings possible. You know it, I know it.

When did people start liking the Hippy playing guitar under the tree when you arrive at college?

never forget, the first third of this series was a romantic chase from an aggressive girl, trying to win the heart of music store clerk she crushed on. All of that was dropped for the shitty music plots
It's pretty easy to drop a manga instead of this 💀 Most people have different preferences and it's obvious

The artist has said in multiple different interviews that she prefers queer people and queer romance be in the story and not be the whole point of the story. That's also how she described this story its not a yuri, she doesn't like how unrealistic and overly fetishized the genre is it. Its not that hard to just drop a series if it doesn't fit your tastes instead of trashing on it just because it is not written how you want it to be. You are honestly more obsessed with this story than the people who actually enjoy reading it.

Because sometimes there’s a manga arc you don’t like, but you always hope that it’s going to get better and most of the time it does.

I really enjoyed the start so I gave it the benefit of doubt, hoping that the romance would eventually come back considering it was the focus, but take a look and see.

And you’re right I have dropped it, it was just a couple of weeks after this post. That was my breaking point.

this author has other works where the women originally are into men who just fell for another woman next. so it makes sense why the first 3rd of it was about a girl who fell for a boy and when she realized she's actually a girl, the "romantic" plot swerved into a typical "will they, won't they" yuri/wlw trope and then when the series is about to end with literally one page left, we'll either get a kiss or hand-holding scene. the author will then confirm it in a tweet that "they're gay... or are they?" to appease yuri fans and potentially a larger group who don't like yuri but LOVES cgdct/bff gal pals.

audience will eat that shit up and praise it as "the best yuri in 100 years"

"this isn't a yuri"
yep it makes sense. and that's why a lot of people, even wlw's, prefer subtext or bait over canon yuri. this series will never get the text route but instead go in a zigzag. fuckin norita or whatever the male self-insert was is getting a bit more progress cuz aya's friend suddenly just got a crush on him lmao.

I'm gonna be annoyed if this winds up being some S tier friends shit where they never formally confess. We leave that back in 2023
the author is getting more recognition keeping it subtext so it's likely that it'll stay like this for a while until he gets bored of the story and moves on to a possibly hetero manga focusing on the male self-insert and aya's friend who got a crush on him.

Never mind confession, I was convinced we were getting a kiss then

talk about baiting

"this isn't a yuri"

Of course it is. You have two women who are physically attracted to each other. There's been nothing in the story thus far to insinuate the "just besties" that would constituted GL.

Either way, I  really hope this doesnt end up being a 'Budokan' level bait and switch. Would end up being such a waste.

It's hard enough to find yuri that's not pornographic (and even then, its never really just yuri) or totally filled with unnecessary drama villians let alone something with actual kissing (or, heaven forbid, a clothed second base).

I guess if it does there's still Kase-san...

I said "its not a yuri" because majority of the time yuri is written to appease to the average teenage to adult male who loves to sexualize and fetishize lesbian relationships. Arai Sumiko once said in an interview they don't like stories that appease to readers who only see lesbian characters for one thing only. That being the sexual tension between the other and whether or not they are full on making out by the second volume. So therefore in the artist's eyes its not a yuri its simply a story about two girls and their blossoming romance through their shared interest. If you actually read what Jackist meant in all of their comments whether it be here or on a different chapter's discussion page they basically said that in this "yuri" the romance progression isn't as far unlike all the unrealistic yuri that's out there.

I enjoy this manga a lot as its written with queer readers in mind because it doesn't just focus on the relationship or the fact the characters are gay. The main two actually have interest and a personality that isn't just being cute/attractive and queer. I like how the story focuses more on the interests that Aya and Mitsuki share because that's how many queer relationships between teenagers actually develop here in the west and would assume it also happens in other places as well.

I admire Arai Sumiko for wanting to change or at least alter the standard for how queer relationships are written because past girls love manga was never written for queer readers. Queer manga readers has been wishing for a series that realistically tackles romance between teenagers. More specifically the journey to starting that relationship. It is truly a bumpy journey just like it is in the manga.

Yuri authors being absolutely dismal at whatever else they try is my most disliked trope.

Whatever happened with the general tone of the manga at the start and where it's going are complete opposites. Imagine reading the title and ending here. Even the format is against the BS going on.

And it's not betrayal what I feel, just disappointment because this is history repeating itself again.

This is something about her character which I hope the author explores further. Characters need flaws to help in driving the story foreward, and I'm curious to see how Koga's flaws will affect her developing friendships.
