Are dukes / duchesses powerful enough to stand against a prince who is probs second in line to the throne?
that would depend on the general political situation, i guess. Whether or not the royal family has much power as a whole or how much influence the duke has in terms of factions/ land ownership/ military power. There are examples in history of kings who ruled without question and others who were mere puppets. question is how much the author has flashed this out.
