@zz2000 Well its not really a childs fault when they are raised like that. You can't really help it if your caretakers are shit. She was afraid and only doing what she was raised to think was right. Thats far less horrible than the fully grown adult versions of her who are well past salvaging. The daughter could come around but only if she realizes and is helped to realize the reality of the situation.

The parents were likely like her in their youth but they grew up and missed the turn off this cycle of abuse.

@Aslinn perhaps there in the type of medieval world where it's not that unusual for children to die. People might think the family might have bad genes that cause kids to die before 10. That and being emperor he has more important matters then finding patterns in other families.
