'They will hesitate in the fight with the civilians'
'They've started the fight, thus there are no civilians, only volunteer partisans and militia'
So, the one that is on the losing side would eventually become the one who's charged for a war crime if there is such a trial.

A few thousand at most were wounded or killed on the allied side during Normandy, and they advanced inward pretty rapidly afterwards, not getting into trench warfare in very unfavorable positions

@C3PO One is successful while the other is not. Gallipoli was used by the Australian and New Zealand to gather under the banner of "independence", hence its reputation. Historians have all agreed that D-day was a massive PR success. The propaganda machine managed to avoid the entire strategy of "putting men in a position where the only way to survive is forward" in the public mind while condemning the Soviet for implementing such policy on the front.
@Robbini The Allies total casualties is around 10000 on D-day ALONE. Among that, 4100 confirmed dead. I suspect they do not report exact number to conceal how bloody D-day was. They were not able to achieve any of day one goal, and required a few days to link up the beaches. Only because the invasion was successful, it was celebrated.
