If the author doesn't give us la petite mort loophole out of this cursed blood contract I am going to be so upset.

I can think of one instance of weasel words to get out of the contract as long as you use a specific version of “eat.”

Sincerely hoping 'eat' can be a work around that'll change the outcome of this brilliant story. I love how Hinako is able to differentiate the intensity of Shiori's feelings with Miko. I think it's because she can see that Shiori exists only for her. She cares not for anyone else, just Hinako. This monster who survived because of her now exists for her. She may not realize the romantic implications (please tell me there will be) but she knows Miko will be able to move forward and continue to make friends but Shiori, Shiori will dwell on the loss of Hinako for her entire existence.

This was brilliant. Shiori's heartbeat, the tension, Shiori wanting to make sure the creature is away from Hinako before she attacks. All these things Hinako notices that demonstrate how important she is to Shiori... I love this manga so much. Super excited for the anime!

I was not expecting Hinako to have this revelation at this point. Like yeah we've been speculating about how much Hinako's death would destroy Shiori for a few chapters now but we have her thoughts easy to access for us. Thought it'd take Hinako at least several chapters to get that kind of revelation, but she discovered it in such an intimate way!
I'm impressed Hinako still has that insight and empathy for Shiori, now all that remains is for Hinako to tell Shiori about this

I gotta be honest, I wouldn't be dissatisfied with a bitter/tragic ending. It does fit with the themes. I do want to believe a hopeful ending is possible. I just feel like it would be completely meaningless for their promise to be completely sidestepped due to some loophole or asspull. That promise always felt like the final nail, ensuring a night of looping the Guts Theme when it's all over. Sure the author can undo it, but I don't know if the story survives that.

Nothing that hasn't been said before. I just really want this to be great, and it has been, but I can see the holes it might fall into.

I think in the end it will be something ironic like Hinako having to eat Shiori's flesh to have eternal life. Only in this way would it be possible to break the promise and both be together.
