I dunno how to feel about this chapter, some nice characterisation but boy the line "I don't think it was abuse" when clearly describing a form of abuse made me be like "Well I hate the dad" . Kinda kills the emotions from the later part of the chapter for me at least.

If you think that this story downplaying abuse is bad,
wait until you find out why she was going to jump in the first place

Oh no please don’t tell me it was sexual abuse. I can handle reading physical abuse while it disgusts me, but I just hate rape so much more

It's dubious, at one hand they were training to the bone, dad probably had unfulfilled dream and tried to fulfill it through his son (like most all child beauty pageant contestants) but on the other hand he does try to become a doctor because there weren't one for his dad.

Also, foreshadowing "Me too..."?

I dont think it was intentional abuse but yeah to go to the level the dad did was abuse nonetheless.

I feel like the son is more retroactively downplaying it cause the father died. I'd bet a million bucks if dad hadn't died they'd be estranged from each other never wanting to talk to him again.

He didn't cry about it or care like mom and sister, but still figured to become a doctor instead saying "yerrr out!" with a smile.
Didn't hate enough, but still felt attached.
