yes she work hard. yes she's diligent. yes she did everything she could. but One thing she Wrong about. is she judge something or situation not with rationality, but her emotions. she challenged everyone in the past not for the right, not for herself, but merely her "duty" for her family standing (which she put on herself). worse, she also judged other on her own perception disregarding the truth and believe on her own (in this case the Alya situation).
she Definitely deserves on what coming towards her after this.

I will never understand the minds of these fuckin rich kids man
What I don't understand about rich kids in manga: They're all so smart, diligent and role models and everyone admires them.

In reality, at least how I witnessed it, they're often lazy fucks who are either a) assholes or b) don't give a fuck. Sometimes even both...

At least the debate is a good opportunity to gather support.

"What kind of person is Taniyama-san?"
A bitch.

Pro tip: debates are stupid.
And a lot of debates are just about talking over the other party, and come with wittier responses. Use big words and a lot of arguments at once so the opponent can't effectively respond, and will easier fall into traps. It's rarely about the actual subject.

Reactions here are pretty funny tbh.
This series was never just a romcom, it goes way in-depth for these characters and can get quite serious, so don't expect it to always be lighthearted.
Yes this arc is actually important for the future and isn't just "pointless drama".
I won't say you're supposed to like Sayaka, cause yeah the point of the introduction is to give you exactly that impression.

There's nothing wrong with this type of arc in and of itself, and it hardly takes a pebble of media literacy to see where this is probably going.

But where it is in this story, especially given the arc that we just saw, makes it feel extremely forced and unnecessary (to me, at least).

Like I don't care, just get it over with. I get that the election is important, we just don't need another "you're not worthy of him, you need to prove it" story arc. We literally just finished one.

Meh. I'm dropping this. Two basic reasons: First, the arc is annoying and gets in the way of the romance and grinds into my face that this is a plot-manipulated story so it suspends my disbelief.
Second, it rubs my nose in how this is a story about rich people with fake problems and makes me stop caring about the characters.
So I'm gone. Pity, it seemed quite nice for a while.
