I noticed this got updated, I haven't kept up with it at all, and now I am glad, maybe this will be nice to read....when is finished in another 4 years or so.
Reactions here are pretty funny tbh.
This series was never just a romcom, it goes way in-depth for these characters and can get quite serious, so don't expect it to always be lighthearted.
Yes this arc is actually important for the future and isn't just "pointless drama".
I won't say you're supposed to like Sayaka, cause yeah the point of the introduction is to give you exactly that impression.
Future? Jeez this is the student council, they are just a bunch of delusional larpers who are high on the sliver of power they think they have, I don't believe for one second that the author's school was anything like this, this is a mass delusion, this is gas lightning from an entire medium.
Maybe it should have been set during University, so the stakes could have been higher.

Meh. I'm dropping this. Two basic reasons: First, the arc is annoying and gets in the way of the romance and grinds into my face that this is a plot-manipulated story so it suspends my disbelief.
Second, it rubs my nose in how this is a story about rich people with fake problems and makes me stop caring about the characters.
So I'm gone. Pity, it seemed quite nice for a while.
Might I recommend this?

"I can't work in student council if I labelled as loser"

Weak. A real winner don their scar with pride. Its proof they're fighting instead of just sit back and vote like an NPC.

Why would he care anyway, your goal is not powerful position in school, being with the russian chick is. I believe giving her the position is great insult for her rather than accepting the challenge.

What I don't understand about rich kids in manga: They're all so smart, diligent and role models and everyone admires them.

In reality, at least how I witnessed it, they're often lazy fucks who are either a) assholes or b) don't give a fuck. Sometimes even both...

Pro tip: debates are stupid. You're not trying to convince your opponent since they won't change their opinions but rather your audience. If you want to put on a show, might as well do a speech.
The only thing that could make this debate any dumber is whether the whiny bitch tries to besmirch Alya's image and/or bribes the audience, aka the students, to get on her side beforehand and maybe even have the debate questions lean in her favor.

Because yes, as stupid as that sounds, that did happen in reality, and I'd rather not see a repeat of that in manga. If they're going to make a debate in manga, make it interesting, and most importantly, make it fair for both parties involved.

This is an absurd idealization of what elite schools, kids, and their families are like. Don't think too hard about. It's the melodrama sports manga model, but about talking tough about made up honor bullshit.

This is what happens when an author picks a theme they know nothing about, but they are the kind of person that beats off thinking about tea parties, arranged marriages, and noble families.

Okay, I'm done. This student council stuff is so dumb, I hate how they always treat it like it's the most serious thing in the world. I want cute romcom.

Don't want to sound like i hate this manga, but what's the council plot in mangas lately? How it's so important, when most of schools don't care about that?

Correct, the CEO is the most replaceable post in a company, but that's beside the point, I was talking about these rich kids in school.

Isn't debate basically a campaign speech in the form of dialogue?

Already reading it. Yes, I quite like it . . . gentle, low key, kind of off-beat.
