This manga is the result of mixing One Punch Man, Solo Leveling, and Bocchi The Rock! all into one. Hoshinomiya is just Genos, and Kinoko's family living in Gunma directly parallels Saitama living in the Z-City ghost town.

I'm still wondering; how exactly does ranking up make a person stronger? We see Hoshinomiya using electricity-powered weaponry, so I assume ranking up doesn't just buff a person's physical stats...?

Finally, I just realized how hilarious it is that Kinoko is afraid of talking to strangers but not afraid of dealing with Strangers. Is it like this in the original Japanese as well?

In the original jp they refer to them as 異界者 (otherworlders) with the furigana/reading of "strangers".

知らない人 (lit. person that is not known) is used in general context as stranger.

So the "stranger" stranger we have in English isn't the same in Japanese
