the typesetting seems fine and i notice you using 2 different fonts or for the king speech you Bold to make his voice deeper than Joshua's


and i think during the scene where the delegations from Kingdom of Limia and Laurel Federation met, they all only referring to both Hibiki and Chiya with their title is fitting to highlight their prestige and importance. its okay that they only use their real name once during the convo.

and its probably just me but at page 22, when its only just the King and Joshua, maybe Joshua's line should be "But Father" as it seems that the convo seems to be private and they are the only people left in the room so to signify their close relationship as Joshua is his right hand man (the king seems to favor Joshua even tho Belda is the crown prince).

There are manga where the interpersonal relationships between the characters is conveyed with the usage of the suffixes, and this is not one of those manga. You can safely lose them and the tone nor intent will be hurt.

I will go for keep them, specially since it's not like all the characters use them like that, we got the king just calling her as hero hibiki to himself, while joshua uses the hero-dono (which implies she talks in a more formal tone, which later will know why she does that too), then at the meeting he uses dono for chiya and hibiki as a way to show his respect to the hero and the priestess, to show the Laurel Federation he values both equally, specially since that is part of what they were talking about (getting chiyo in danger), -dono could be replaced by Sir/Lady, but then how will we go for -sama, because in the case of laurel saying high priestess-sama sounds like she would have an even higher rank, so it would be kinda hard to easily replace, and well in the case of Laurel, they are the japanese type of hyuman, so they using -sama is pretty much part of their culture.

normally I would really want to see the moment with the merchant guild leader, buuuuut this chapter was sincerely great, well it was also a full canon chapter again, the POV of Limia's kingdom is great, because it's not like they are fully the good guys (we know for how the 1st prince thought at the start about the demi humans, they think like most hyumans as a basis), but we also got the reunion with totally not japan land (Laurel), and Tomoe is still nervous...

Keep the honorifics.

What question Tomoe wanted to ask to Makoto? I don't remember anime talked about it.

remember when Root explained how hard is for Makoto to actually get back to earth, which for him sounded like crazy stuff, they talk later and Root asked why she faked not understanding how Makoto could in fact return to his world, she wants to know if he would leave them behind if he gets the chance to return, she's afraid of his answer.

last page... ooff finally, the manga did fantastically when Makoto break the first time, please don't fail for the 2nd ... anime did okay, but makoto's pov would go better in manga that has been always a lot more detailed.

The only good point here is about not knowing what the honorifics means and that's exactly the point "professional" translators use and abuse to justify their "work" quality, I haven't found a single reader that doesn't know or infer what the honorifics mean, can understand that a person living in a vacuum being introduced to manga would be confused by the honorifics but that's not an issue for anyone with a computer. I consider that a minor problem compared to what excluding honorifics means and could mean for a story, the could mean part is about opening the door to bastardized works that sanitize anything not appropriate for modern audience(censorship).

You mean, making the translation sound consistent? Especially in cases like this one where the language of the work is just a stand-in for a fantasy language. Translation is about conveying meaning, not just words, across languages. The levels of respect honorifics convey can easily be translated into English with different titles or just by how commonly pronouns are used (would work well for the Priestess argument) and any additional meaning should be discernible through context (even if the translator has to add a little something in).
And for the record, I'm weeb enough to understand honorifics, but I just feel they're pure unnecessary clutter in this context (excluding when Mio, Tomoe, Shiki, etc., who use Japanese when speaking to MC).
Anyway, don't diss good translation practise with your slippery slope fallacy.

The honorific only convey information if you understand what they mean, which means you are expecting the English reader to understand at least a portion of Japanese language and culture to read and understand your English translation.

And like most of us here they'll learn. Its translating another language, there will always be compromises.

It seems to be an unpopular opinion on this thread, but personally, as a translator, I'd say remove them or change them for an equivalent in English.

Priestess-sama/dono to Lady Priestess, Her Holiness, Her Highness (per context, of course).

Hero-sama/dono to Hero or Hero + their name (being a hero themselves is already an honor for the person).

Kuzunoha-sama to Mr. Kuzunoha, for example.

There are many times in which you need to remove things from the OG Japanese in order for the translation to flow better. Keeping -sama or -dono would be the same as keeping -san for the rest of the characters (different levels of respect, but all of them exclusive to the Japanese language).

Lots of services being canceled, which apparently were used by translators to work on mangas. They paid a huge settlement over contract cancelation fees, AI is able to do their programs now, so less use. The CEO is leaving, so things are uncertain.

Like many others I say keep it. If you think people are having trouble understanding either an explanation on the credit page or an asterisk type note can be very appreciated. For anyone who isn't culture phobic and not interested in erasing the original culture little notes like that can be fun learning opportunities. I've always loved when the translation helps you learn about the culture from which the work is from.
