"Now that the villain is dead, I shall pull some wacko loopy land revisionist logic in order to vindicate him posthumously, making the reader forget what a giant, sadistic cunt with a big throbbing god complex he really was, self-righteously passing judgment for death penalties on what are basically children, taking visible delight in the deaths he caused, and mocking the anguish of the one trying to save lives for the pure sanctity of them (and maybe a little guilty trauma). Yeah, this makes sense."
You're not intended to agree with the way she viewed Kai because, surprisingly, not everything every character says in a work is supposed to reflect what the author thinks. There's truth in what Sayoko says about Satsuki but it's also undermined by her blind devotion to Kai and inability to see him as anything less than perfect.

Anyway, Miho is the true hero of the story.

I mean if he was there he would probably look all the doors and help Seo kill them all.

Do we.. Do we read the same manga ? He pretty much wanted her dead. Why in the world would he had helped her doing her terrorist thing ? Can't believe some agree to this. Did you just miss the moment where he was blocking Satsuki to acces the classroom where Seo where get asphyxed and was watching her dying ? Like, in what world would he have help her ?

Seo's gone full saturday morning cartoon villain.
This is ridiculous and it's the most frustrating way this could've gone. Can someone change? The manga throws that question at us over and over and over and the protagonist answering the obvious 'yeah no shit' is what makes her heroic. Then, nope, turns out she's awful. She didn't snap after people refused to believe she could get better, she's blowing up the whole fucking gym.

This manga's trying to have too many things too many ways. People can change, but nope, they can't, unless they do, some things should happen and it's bad to stop them, except maybe not, but maybe actually yes, you can't just decide that people deserve to die, but actually you can and its good...

It's a muddled mess of a story. Picking one theme to explore or taking a firm stance on the questions raised would've made things make sense and satisfying to read. Or sidelining those questions for the investigative hook. Focusing on them, making ridiculous character turns so they won't be answered, and bouncing from theme to theme makes it incredibly frustrating to read.

It's too bad. Cause there's something here! A girl can see someone who will die, and through her knowledge of forensics, quickly deduces how they will. It's great! She's determined to save everyone she can for reasons that probably have to do with losing her mother! It's great! EVEN the school president who raises a counterpoint to her by using his same power to make sure the people he thinks are bad end up dying is an interesting rival and antagonist. But it just spun the fuck out of control.

Ironically... I think it's time it got put down.

It's so sad to see the author clinging to the idea that Prez was this amazing, complicated villain who put into question whether it's truly righteous to save people. For all the time and chapters focused on him and VP girlfriend, the author never managed to make me sympathetic to his cause. Like, even remotely.

Ironically, the manga's emphasis on science makes Prez seem even more stupid, since he's assuming fate is meant to claim lives in some equivalent exchange. No one knows how all this works, that's why he's so unbearably conceited. Satsuki is doing the best she can with the information she has, and that's what all good scientists do. If anyone sees people will die in a way they can stop, only a cold hearted person would ignore someone in need.

So the Student Council was a cult. And Vice Prez will probably go down thinking the serial killing they did was right.

Girl, stop with the anti-hero complex, different degrees of punishment are needed for different degrees of fucked up a person can be.

Also, when will the ✨queen✨ just off Seo from the plot? You are sabotaging her, yes, but do it better. Make her go to jail.

P.S: The lack of Komachi appearing is concerning. She plottin’.

Reading the comments here is kinda frustrating. I don't think the manga was ever portraying Kai as an outright villain OR trying to "vindicate" him in death and portray him as "right." I don't think it's trying to portray either of them as specifically "right," though I do agree his approach is a bit more "wrong" than Satsuki's.

His main role was showing the multiple perspectives to the ability to see premonitory corpses. Satsuki has a pathological need to save people thanks to the trauma with her mother, so she focuses mostly on the "situation": how they die, and how to prevent the death. The corpses only show up 24 hours in advance at most though, so she's basically living in the moment and acting with a constant sense of urgency.

Kai however didn't have that need, and thus was able to analyze the situation and the overall ability from a less emotional standpoint. Compared to Satsuki, he DID focus more on helping the living, because he looked at how to improve the situation overall to try to prevent those corpses from appearing altogether. Don't agree with him murdering people to do it, but that particular method also came from trauma: he saw Saijou (vice pres) being bullied by their teacher, and with that power balance, he couldn't think of any way to save her than to remove the teacher from the picture. Given the fact that first murder saved her, Saijou naturally saw it as "right" and fed into that view as they got older.

One other key aspect of his viewpoint though: he thought messing with "fate" can have consequences. He outright told Satsuki that he'd seen a lot more premonitory corpses since she enrolled and that he thought "fate is looking for another death" to replace the lives she'd saved. And honestly? I think his theory might be right. His approach of killing off an "evil" person to keep it balanced is still pretty wrong, but... It IS weird how many deaths Satsuki has seen in the span of this manga. It's not just a case of a story being more eventful than reality: Satsuki saw her first premonitory corpse in third grade, and then five years later saw her mother's. So she'd had the ability for at LEAST five years without seeing a premonitory corpse, while in the span of this manga she's seen dozens.

Basically, the situation is more nuanced than one person being totally right or wrong. They're both right and wrong, just in different areas. While he and the vice president are wrong for justifying murdering people, they're right to focus on preventing the corpses from appearing in the first place by improving the overall environment. We automatically think of Satsuki as "right" because saving people is generally morally upright, but she's reactionary and only acts once she sees corpses. She doesn't really think to look at the larger picture unless she sees that person die again, which can have nasty long-term consequences if it's not a one-off incident, and struggles at how to help people outside of literally saving their lives.

One more thing: all the characters are right when they say that Satsuki is saving people so she won't feel guilty. She doesn't realize it because saving people IS inherently good, so it's hard to call it "selfish," but her motive does ultimately stem from her guilt more than altruism. And we've seen how that can make her tear herself apart even more when she fails, girl's living on the edge of a breakdown at all times.

Wild that this is what you took away from the chapter.

Manga sure veered off in a weird direction to justify the chapter it all started from. Now Seo feels like a cheap villain even tho she had a justifiable case of self-defense but even so, why is nobody calling the police?! Wth.

Anyway, I still think the dude got what he fking deserved. Manipulating and killing people while pretending he is doing it for "the greater good". Yeah, saw plenty of people like it before...

You know now that the VP gave her little monologue, it would be interesting to have something like an ideological standoff between her and Akira. They're both partners to people that can see the premonitory corpses, but those people use that ability in different ways. The VP and Akira were saved in different ways too (the pres. committing murder as opposed to Satsuki preventing one), so it's certain they'd have opposing views on the deaths they're trying to cause/prevent.

thanks for the translation!

what a way to save the say, finding it, removing it, and then taunting the person who was about to do an act of terrorism
