Kurohime getting pity-added to the relationship just so that she's not sad feels forced af and kinda ruins her whole arc (which was great btw), while also cheapening the shit out of the Todou/Rin relationship all in one sad swoop.

it's not "cheapening" itsumi and hanei's relationship. they both suggested very them solutions to the love triangle. it helps to show that, while hanei is, on the surface, normal, she's her own kind of freak which is how she can keep up with itsumi.

it's also not "pity adding". "first come first serve" is a shitty solution to love and both itsumi and hanei had their own opinions on how to deal with this. like, as itsumi said, if kurohime had asked her out first, she would be dating kurohime and turning down hanei because of it.

I can get behind this, IF it's because Toudou was so touched (and/or aroused) by the heart-to-heart these two beautiful souls were having she started shipping them on the spot.

The only three person polycule I will accept (in fiction, at least) is an equilateral triangle. If they're all into each other, then it's the correct solution. If it's only based on one person not being able to make up their damn mind (i.e. a harem), it's doomed. If you add a fourth person and raise the number of relationships that have to work out to six, it's doomed. Three, I can just barely fit within my suspension of disbelief, if it's handled properly.

This is the correct read of the situation, by the way. This didn't happen because the mangaka is scared of picking one girl and sticking with her exclusively, it happened because Itsumi is scared of picking one girl and sticking with her exclusively, because that means she gets less adulation and overall public opinion of her is lower. I personally wouldn't mind if this somehow did become some sort of 20-way harem ending, but I still fully expect the final arc to be Itsumi's compulsive obsession with everyone liking her to finally come crashing down on her in spectacular fashion.

Manga still goated, so staying tuned for now I guess, though this really feels like a turning point and not in a good way...

Personally I'm not disappointed, a poly ending was somewhat hinted from the beginning...but I feel like that going for it NOW is a waste of Fmc's growth.
FMC (almost) walked away from her initial self and became a person that (somewhat) respects her partner and prioritize her above everyone else...and now it is gonna be reverted? And pushed by the partner herself, challenging the other girl for absolutely no reason? Meh. Feels like a "deus ex machina" decision thrown there

If there will be more girls involved, it wouldn't be a harem. It would be like communal use kind of thing. When ball start rolling, Itsumi will lose any control of the situation.

Good on Itsumi for turning Kurohime down at first and not going straight for the poly route to get out of hurting Kurohime's feelings. I was not expecting that out of Rin and it almost felt out of character but it all made sense by page 46. It's just like back in chapter 25 how Rin was ready to go home if Itsumi didn't say she picked Rin over the other girls instead of choosing on a whim. Rin will turn down her own happiness if she's not clearly Itsumi's number one. Assuming Rin and Kurohime accept, this wouldn't be a complete cop-out threesome. Mochi worked their magic again.
Something to note is that Kurohime and Rin both have a negative view of themselves. We just saw this chapter how much Kurohime exalted others over herself and Rin sees herself "like a robot who lives according to someone else's values." It will be interesting to see how this similarity comes into play later.
Though I do have one concern about the threesome. Balance is important to make it work but there is inherently an imbalance with Itsumi, Rin, and Kurohime since Rin is in middle school. Which means Itsumi and Kurohime can spend much more time together than Rin can. And we've already seen how infrequently Rin gets to show up in the manga due to that.
