honestly, i think the marks on the guys back have a much simpler and more benign explanation than you guys are thinking: bacne. when I was his age I had horrifically bad pimples all over my back that looked a lot like that. Plus, the author mentioned before that the change fucks with their hormones tremendously, and one of the biggest signs of a mans hormones being out of wack, be it from puberty or steroids, is really bad bacne.

Well in Shoujo Nyuumon which is this concept but reversed, it has neither of the tags. So I expect this one to follow the same vain.

Maybe you should spend some time reading Shoujo Nyuunom. I think when it came to Yuri/Yaoi tags it more an indicator of the desire audience rather than information about the manga in question.

I think there are 2 possibilities:

1) He tried to undergo treatment to become a woman again but it was not successful.

2) He actually underwent treatment to become a man.



The scars are probably from the treatment.

The scars, the fact he doesn’t understand how someone can want to be a woman, and the way he is soooo delicate with women, almost « overprotective »… feels like he was abused as a woman, and in his mind, « being weak » is a main characteristic of being a woman, and the main reason he’s rejecting it.

But yeah, I expected him to be, but not that twist about him seemingly frustrated by the MC’s point of view… this will be interesting to see how it evolve…

So, considering the mangaka's other, canned manga, I have some guesses.

He is FTM, either getting the disease by lucky chance, or perhaps even doing so on purpose. I think this because of the name change and how his mom still sees him. Also, the way he was talking to the MC makes it clear he is very well versed in gender and identity, which could be just from experience of having the disease first, sure, but more likely because of already working out gender and looking up things.

However, considering his reaction in the shower, I will assume that he does not have a community or people to talk about this. His mom sees him as a tragic girl, while no one else seems to know meaning he switched schools and/or moved. With how the MC never asked for this, and has it without choice, that hope for a connection was shattered, and he has locked himself in the closet since he cannot tell the MC.

The scars are likely from not being accepted, be that pre or post disease. He could have been trying to transition beforehand, only to be bullied by his father, or likely, the girls in his class. I am guessing that he always liked sports growing up, and played with boys, but the girls got jelly of the friendships and bullied him pre transition.
