You joke, but that's what a fair few webcomics hosts used to do for their comment sections (and some might still do; I haven't read any in a while). You draw a square over a section of the comic that will then have your message pop up if you hovered over it, bit like Soundcloud.

So each comic page would be filled with dozens of interactive squares within squares doing shit like fighting over the claim to a character's ass-cheeks. Political arguments would break out around another character's armpits. And boxy "comment-dongs" would be strategically placed around any unguarded crotch or mouth.

Oh that's niconico, it's down rn and I'm really sad about that because it's the only video website at school that isn't blocked . (On a different note, when I was watching lagtrain on there there were racial slurs flying past me on my screen because of that comment thing, tbh it's quite funny.)
