I'm not aware of past works of the author, but it's pretty obvious it would be axed.
The first three chapters were very nicely done, showing the two protagonists and how they are connected. But then it just... started rushing everything. It felt like the author was trying to move the plot as fast as they could because they could only publish a chapter per month. Introducing 8 new characters in 3-4 chapters was a bad move. The whole mission was also very jarring and out of nowhere.
There was no time to breathe, take in new information, or take a closer look inside Hanako's head (that happened just two chapters ago)
The whole thing was moving too fast. I feel like the author wanted to show their world with their limited resources but that restricted the other aspects in stories like this, which, in my opinion, should be to focus on the relationship between Sadako and Hanako.
In the end, I think it's not the author's fault for its shortcomings, as they were probably aware of the possibility of it being cancelled. This could be a very nice and long work if they were sure there would be no way of it being cancelled. They would pace it better and just improve it overall.
