So what if it's avaliable for free on webtoons? Is there a reason for it to not be here? MangaDex is an manga aggregator, how is that hard to understand? I for one am glad WN is here, I dropped it on ch. 30 of the first volume because of webtoon's shitty benchmark systems.

Artist revenue is very often based on traffic that their work gets, and MDx is supposedly scanlator (as in creative output people) friendly. How is it that hard to understand?

And if above's not the case, where's my Maripaz at?

@mikegnesium

so, taking 5k views from webtoon's (which is free for the readers) traffic is not okay, but taking unlicensed scans (which should be paid for the readers) from every other work is? Sorry, still hard for me to understand. Hope you can also enlighten me with some knowledge about how this is not just hypocrisy.

I won't, cause it's very likely that you're only interested in you and ignore things that are inconvenient:
I dropped it on ch. 30 of the first volume because of webtoon's shitty benchmark systems.
If you don't see the discrepancy between those two situations, I'm not going to waste time "explaining" it to you. - it's been done at least several times already throughout the site. Maybe someone else will take the the bait.

But hey, why not start posting Oglaf? Or Johny Wander, Octopus Pie, freakin' Cyanide and Happiness, or xkcd? They're also free to read.
Now, I don't know how creators view sharing their work at 3rd party sites, but technically, according to MDx rules, it is here illegally, as it is official release of a title.

Fair enough, no need to explain then, seems to me you're just doing so yourself.

Adorable how you really seem to think everyone has the same knowledge and have seen the same stuff as you did here in MangaDex, like "it's been done at least several times already throughout the site." and disregarding the fact that I may have never seen any of those discussions before, and genuinely not knowing why it's wrong since it does makes sense for me.

Also, really nice touch by treating everything as I said as a bait so you could just ignore all of it and use fallacies to prove the point you said you wouldn't even try. All of the comics you listed really do fit here right in. No reasons for them not to. Guess I won't bother to explain you the difference between Winter Moon and those either. But even with those differences, if MangaDex wanted, and could, they would do so.

Oh, by the way. You probably haven't noticed since you're quite self absorbed, but a a lot of webtoon-like titles have been uploaded by Lymus in a short period of time. I guess he's just doing it without knowing, it's not like he's a mod or something.

Triple A quality of thought. Ad auctoritate awesome.

Don't, cause I have a feeling you're operating with pretty low resolution grasp on the matter, so whatever silly difference you'd had come up with, it would've end up missing the bigger point.

@darasu The original question was a valid question. I went into this comment thread because I wanted to know why this series that officially exists in English on Webtoons is on here. And what I found instead is a series of snark and insults. Now I'm not attacking your original counter question that "what's the big deal if MD takes traffic from Webtoons versus other manga?" While could have been worded less snarky, @mikegnesium didn't make the best response on the matter either.

Mangadex does operate fuzzy grounds, but doesn't operate on no grounds like what you argued. Mangadex does not upload licensed official translations. That is why series like Goblin Slayer have 0 chapters in English here. No official translations on this site, only unofficial translations made by scanlations group motivated by various reasons (I would say by fans, for fans, but that's not quite true).

Now you may argue that it is still hypocrisy in the end. Regardless of how many rules are thrown, one may argue MD is still an aggregator in the end and effectively still disregarding copyright laws. And I don't have the ability to really effectively contest it - or at least contest with an effective argument. But I still have to say it is not quite the same either. When you look at other manga sites that aggregates with no regard, MD's rules and policies does create some kind of "difference". Maybe in the end all these rules about respecting official licenses and how to treat fan scanlations that are ultimately still unlicensed translations are all hypocrisy. But I can't agree it is exactly the same as places like Kissmanga. And in terms of the original question, it does make it confusing to see Winter Moon here when the expectation is you would not (yes, some officially licensed manga still have scanlator group translating anyways, but still relatively few)

But I digressed, to answer the original question since no one answered it, my best guess is from clicking around looking at the "translator" group, it looks like the answer in this particular instance, the translating group is the author. The author's relationship and contractual obligations with Webtoons notwithstanding, the author does not seem to mind. It's actually kinda interesting thinking about this particular author as this is a rare instance we actually have a direct audience that is usually removed by several layers between scanlators, language barriers, and the publisher in Japan.

You can read this webtoon on it's offical website webtoons.com for free. Uplodeing it on MD is basically pointless imo.

Mini review if anybody wants to save his time (I have read all the uploaded chapters):
Pros:
Good art, semi-original plot, some character development. It gets a little better after the first several chapters, but then goes downhill.
Cons:
No plot direction, artificial drama. The premise is an imbalanced mmorpg with op characters that literally get super powers off RNG. Unrealistic character interactions, plot holes.
