Modus operandi of the author; Yajin miserable, his life gets easier, author; can't have that; shit happens, Yajin miserable again.
So I suspect to come; Puppy, Yajin happy => something horrible happens to Puppy, Yajin miserable again.
Good point, if Puppy dies, that'd be another reason for me to stop reading.
There has to be a very hard limit as to how much the MC can be in a never ending loop of conflict, bad fortune, and suffering. It cannot always be an uphill battle.
The fact that the guardsmen are good men, and aided him, was a breath of fresh air in this manga.
It reminds me how I immediately fell in love with the visual novel Muv Luv, because in the first few minutes of the VN, the MC suffers from his generic childhood friend's bullshit, and actually talks back like a normal person, and karate-chops her head for being a dick.
That shit was amazing. You almost NEVER see it in anime, that a violent tsundere who oversteps common sense, actually gets the treatment a normal human being would dish out to her, rather than go: "haha
nape scratch, oh boy okay".
It's weird that being normal is a breath of fresh air, but here we are.
