author better have a good explanation for this. if this is just an 'oopsie i murdered a child' then im dropping this. this series has been struggling to be anything close to 'realism' for a while now and this is just a long-winded torture snuff manga

I didn't miss that "twitch" of the sister after brother mentioned a date with a woman so i knew he wouldn't be hanging around any longer. Tough luck blacksmith sister.

Also, she had the knife in her hand and was moving towards someone. Unless she was trying to harvest some plants from the guard's ass, she is a child assassin

Having a hair trigger and attacking before properly assessing the situation is a huge mistake in the middle of a city.
Yajin, my boy... there's nothing more dangerous than an illusion of knowledge
You're acting like those people who read a Facebook post and think they're now experts 😮‍💨
The most brutal kill this chapter was Yajin's character assassination. He's not the kind of moron who would throw a dagger purely by smell in broad daylight in a busy public place.
the issue is: if girl is an assassin, Baron would have probably died if Yajin took the extra time to assess the situation, so Yajin isn't being moronic, since Baron's life is important - both because Baron is a good guy who helps keep the balance of power in the city, and because Yajin would be scapegoated as page 24 mentioned.

more so since if girl isn't an assassin, she must be really stupid & half deaf/blind if she didn't notice Baron and Yajin killing people and shouting, and still walked into all that while carrying a knife in an unsafe way.

so most likely quick conclusion for Yajin would be that is that she is one, and if she isn't, Yajin got really unlucky.

This is such a cliffhanger. We are dangling over If Yajin will get in trouble or not, if the girl was truly an assassin or not, if his guard friend will have his back or not... Intense. Yeah, better flee town asap. Back to the woods!
With Yajin's luck, it's clear he will get in trouble, even if she is an assassin, they probably won't be able to prove it. The best Yajin can hope for is he doesn't get immediately condemned/arrested since Yajin was still trying to protect Baron and the scene was chaotic, and hopefully Yajin somehow gets his adventure rank up before he needs to skip town.

NGL, I want the author to commit to the bit and truely guilt his OC. But I can't help but suspect that they will copout and the child will turn out to be a dwarf or midget assassin who used their diminutive stature and youthfull appearance to lower her victims guard.
Well, someone could simply have forced a child into acting as an assassin. That's happened plenty in our world, unfortunately, though it would be a bomb and not a knife or poison.

If you look at the kid's expression, it's very serious but not panicked. They're also looking away from the baron. You would expect someone to either be staring at the assassination attempt or trying to run away.

Additionally, the child is not carrying a knife. Notice that it has two edges - a dagger. A dagger is strictly inferior to a knife for anything except harming another person since it doesn't have a flat edge you can push down on, which is why walking around with a knife is viewed differently by police etc than if you had a dagger.

Everyone so occupied with the child situation, we're all forgetting that the blacksmith's sister flinched when the blacksmith suggested that Yajin has a woman he's seeing. I hope they get the opportunity to build a nice relationship. They seem like such an honest and good family, and life was really rough for them too. Plus, it wouldn't hurt to be friends with a family who is incredibly skilled in blacksmithing AND also strong enough to be like the top 5 swordsmen in the kingdom.

Kinda hard to cheer on this mc anymore after this :notlikethis:
Are you being serious? He didn't intentionally kill her (we don't know if she's truly dead yet either). Also, the way the child was holding that knife makes no sense unless she was seeking to stab someone right then and there. If she really was using that knife as a herb gathering knife, she would have had it sheathed or tucked away, no sane person would be walking around gripped upright like that, especially in a world that's so rife with people who don't trust each other. Not to mention, that in no way looks like a knife used for gathering herbs, it's double edged, and there's no way you'd be using a very thing double edged dagger as a herb gathering implement. That is an assassination tool. Also, how the hell is a child not scared whatsoever despite the fact that there was JUST an attack on the baron, and somehow she has a super serious expression that seems to be dead set on a mission, and was walking towards the baron with purpose, with a dagger meant for killing in her hand? She's clearly there using the commotion as a diversion so that she can calmly walk in among the confusion and make her kill.
