Nah, or the guard would be on higher alert, other than just dismissing someone who looks scruffy.

If I recall correctly, Plague Doctor masks also serve as gas masks, so they might've been working on something stinky. Which might also be why MC is there. He might be looking to commission some sort of monster repellant.

Now that you mention it, before the discovery of bacteria (let alone viruses) it was thought bad smell, miasma, is spreading diseases. So, by preventing the smell/miasma, from reaching your nose and lungs, you'd be protected from harm. Under such a theory, would people always draw a distinction between the smell from a rotting body or the pungent smell from sulphurous chemicals?

Actually longer, lol, the next chapter is out on the 27th February, then plus a few days for the guys who do the raws, and then about another week for translating, typesetting and redrawing.

Gas masks, no since they didn't filter anything, but they did contain aromatic herbs. The consensus back then was that bad smells themselves could lead to sickness.

Considering that the guild has incredible influence and was willing to accept his request, rank 5 is most likely very coveted and would grant the adventurer great influence as well.

Rank 5 adventurers are supposed to be able to do that type of mission as if it's just another day at the office. Being told to do it 10 more times isn't completely unreasonable and not the worst thing ever, since the receptionist can provide her bosses with proof that MC can do Rank 5 missions easily and worth promoting to Rank 5.

At least, she's giving him the same mission that he already have experience in. It's far better than being given something else entirely new that he has not prepared for.

Fair point, though I'd loathe having to pl-..
AH, that's why it bugged me; I'm viewing it as a questline - repeating fetch quests in annoying areas drove me mad!
