I think we might be getting the "meat" (pardon the food pun) of Chita's entire deal now, with this sudden shift marking the end of the chapter. That's pretty much her entire arc rn which is why it's kinda dull. All we really know about her is that she's scared of change which is why she doesn't like her gal pals getting boyfriends and focusing more on their future instead of playing.
This could be relatable and a fine arc but the problem with Chita is that we've only seen this selfish side of her, we haven't seen much good from her or any decent reasoning why she's so scared of change. I feel like if we got any actual depth tied to her insecurities and more of her positive traits people would come around to her more
I won't judge whether it's a good or bad thing that it's taken 200+ chapters to get to the point of fleshing out her character and potentially revealing whether there's a reason she's afraid of change--she is a side character after all, and (to me) was treated as a sort of "gag character", more than anything (at first) to inject comedy into interactions with Anju & Toyoda--but I do think that it's imminent, should the author intend to do it at all.
Maybe the ship has sailed on getting some of the readers to "change their take" on her as a character, but that's always gonna be the case in any cast ensemble title.
I just mostly look forward to seeing what the author has in store, now that it looks like we're getting past the toppings on the Chita Pie.
