It is fan service. However you can reason around it. I don't think it is so weird. We just have expectations of manga that the protagonist who is timid wears the "comfy bear slip". But in her case she wants to become an artist. And if there is a stereotype all artists fits, then it is that they have the most unreasonable quirks deviating from the norm ... so why not let her feel comfy with sexy underwear. She just does not show it of in public but underneath, well it's up to the reader to imagine.

On the one hand, the nurturing type would be "good" for Tokio in a development and growth sense... On the other hand several things come to mind: first and foremost Tokio x Komaki would require it's own bloody manga, if it were to be done here, short of so far down the storyline that Tokio is in the same HS(which is only marginally set up) them encountering each other in a significant sense would be a hell of a deus ex, also it would be a mildly annoying way to resolve Tokio's feelings after so much build-up (again requiring essentially an entire manga in itself)

Don't get me wrong, it'd be interesting to see such a pairing, but it's simply not possible for it to be organic in any sort of realistic time frame, and if it went that route, I'd be shocked as this author is better than that. But, depending on various resolutions, I can envision an epilogue of Tokio failing to get into his primary choice and encountering Komaki after Chii has effed off to eat overseas. 🤷‍♂️

I more said the Komaki-sensei thing ad a joke, but thinking about Tokio needing an onee-san type and given that she's actually not his teacher, it's not the worst possible pair in this manga.

It's a good "what if" scenario, even a decent spin-off option. Not necessarily even Komaki, but Tokio is a sympathetic character, and depending on how everything goes, it's still possible for him to end up in either HS, sans Chii.

I Unironically don't know what Tokio sees in Chii. Like they don't even seem to have similar interests. And I don't get that feeling of " enjoying getting swept up in her pace like I do with Seto". I just don't really see it like I do with the other two pairings. Especially cuz Chii seems like the absolute LEAST receptive of all the girls.
