Who would've thought MangaDex would see its 8th anniversary. (certainly not you, users from certain anonymous boards)
If you're reading this, we made it.
2025 was, to put it mildly, a year. It threw just about everything at us... legal notices, server fires, and enough stress to turn a mascot's hair gray.
But thanks to you, the staff, and an ungodly amount of caffeine, MangaDex is still standing.
Today, we celebrate 8 years of reading, discovering, and occasionally breaking the servers with too much traffic.
As is tradition, here's a recap of the chaos, the memes, and the updates that defined our 7th year.
The Elephant in the Room: May 15, 2025
Let's get the hard part out of the way first. We definitely can't talk about the last year without mentioning the "Great Purge".
In May, we were hit with a coordinated enforcement event that forced us to disable access to chapters belonging to approximately 7000 titles.
It certainly was a heavy blow, but we adapted. Instead of nuking your reading logs into oblivion, we finally implemented the v3 "unavailable" status. The images might be gone to comply with the law, but your reading history remains safe.
The lighter side: GachaDex & Brainrot
It wasn't all doom and gloom. April Fools 2025 gave us GachaDex, and you guys went absolutely feral for it.
For those that don't know what I'm talking about, we released a set of collectible cards ranging from 0-star "Dirt" to 7-star "Legendary".
There was some... confusion about the total number of cards. So, for the record, it was 140 cards, not 141 (sorry, can't count o((>ω< ))o).
We also saw a lot of you unlocking the Brainrot Girlfriend card. We're not sure if we should be proud or concerned though...
To Year 9 and Beyond
They say you know you've made it when you have a target on your back. If that's the case, 2025 was our biggest year yet.
As the artwork below shows, we know exactly what we're up against. But honestly? We're too busy enjoying the cake to worry about the crosshairs. Let them take their shot, we'll be here for the next one.
