[Rejected] Disallow Mass Removal

I saw today this request from Bentoki and I don't think this should be allowed.

Similar to archive.org, Mangadex should keep uploads if there is not a serious legal issue.

Example:
Angelic Scans translated the first few chapters of Yong Heng Zhi Zun. This manhua was cancelled, so I doubt someone is after them. If the chapters are removed, the 300 chapters after become essentially unreadable for new users.

What's the difference between a "mass removal" and the uploader/group leader removing everything one by one?

If you want something saved do not rely on someone else to do it. Mangadex probably won't be around forever. so even if it stays on the site it will still probably vanish at some point.

The second part is certainly true. And I definitely should backup more manga (just that I'm always forgetting mangadex-downloader cli options).

Regarding the first part, I'd say removing chapters one by one for the purpose of removing them all definitively counts as mass removal.

So to put it another way, you don't want to allow groups/uploaders to be able to delete their contributions to the site?

I understand that's probably not really how you mean it, but that is effectively the only way to accomplish your suggestion.

I get what you're talking about, I like things to be preserved too, but I think we should allow creators the right to take away their work and all that, even if it means new users, such as myself, are unable to conveniently read certain series.

One of Mangadex's founding values is that groups have control over their own stuff.

Like, that's what made it better than many other sites that scraped their stuff together.

Bentoki doing their petty thing is unpleasant, and they did get told off for their Angel Scans attempt, but that's what groups having control over their translations means.

It was the same when... What was their name... Jaimini's box had their temper tantrum back in those days. They left, took their stuff with them, then got their site nuked by the legal owners of the work.

Best thing you can do is to learn chinese and translate that work yourself, or use MTL, how most of the less respectable translations groups do. Chinese works rarely deserve a proper translation anyways

Hi, unfortunately we can't proceed with this suggestion since our Terms of Service dictates that "uploaders are responsible for the content and only they can remove the content".

The MangaDex Staff won't help anyone regarding this matter as we only perform this action if "legally we're required to do so by a rightsholder or law enforcement".
