Idk why but I think the author trying so hard to make this manga get anime adaptation, that's why this whole thing get dragged out too far even after the confession between MMC and FMC. Like literally in this arc alone we get 3 different story arc that get compact in one single arc and the story in this arc specifically feels more jumpy and all over the place. Like a few chapter ago we dealing with his ex-girlfriend best friend conflict, and then she got trapped by his co-worker, and now we getting about his ex-girlfriend get blackmail. It's so all over the place and not consistent, the author want to milk this manga but get overwhelmed by the story itself.

Ahh I see, thx for the info. I personally don't read light novel that's why I don't know that this novel adaptation get cancelled. Yeah, the author had all the time in the world to change the manga and make it more palatable, considering volume 2 of the novel came out on 2023-12-22. At that point, the manga hadn't even published its second volume yet.

Maybe it was a contractual thing, or maybe that's simply the story the author wanted to tell, even if it turned out to be terrible and a commercial failure. Who knows.

Assume author's trying to have the noose tighten on all the baddies at once, and there's still more setup they're aiming for? It feels so forced and dumb, and is where this series is at its weakest.
Other than the "SA-because-why-not" and "it's basically a hate crime" parts. Those... are worse.
