Maybe they can (limitedly) direct the dragon, and use it to eat the bad guy, and they fight the bad guy inside the dragon's stomach

Could be a magic set-up where they can only leave or be communicated with for brief durations of time. We have two extremely powerful and renowned mages who are old friends... except their relationship will likely be stretched and milked due to the dramatic implications of mistaking Amon's brother for him.

It really feels like we are kinda backing down from the premise. Now her subordinates were always on her side but didn't really do anything, and the dysfunction of the order is being put on this one guy being a lazy opportunist ass (even regular soldiers can tell he is the issue) so how long did things just...stay that way? Also people know that she disappeared while investigating something, those within the order know it was about a dragon, so why even try to lie about her lol.

Also would she be this chill and forgiving with Lily if it was Claire that she beheaded? Not saying that Lienna should kill her but it just feels like too easy of a switch. It's hard to accept "you were fighting for your friends (lol) and you already apologized" when they came to test how efficiently they could defeat this nation's soldiers now that their Commader is missing, brutally murdered any resistance and planted magical bombs in potential survivors to wipe out more people.

Tough sell for me, still a very enjoyable story but as we go it seems like the premise is more an hindrance than anything and we are trying to soft retcon parts of it.

This is kind of how Japanese Black Companies form. Due to either nepotism or seniority, guys like Marshi get into positions of power and push most of their work and responsibilities on to those with similar rank but less seniority while brown nosing to everyone above them. Combine this with junior members being trained not to talk back to or correct those that are senior to them so such issues end up festering for a long time. Getting a promotion often does not increase your power it puts you into the most inferior position of a new hierarchy until someone else is promoted up to your new level.

Huh, with the early impression of Claire through the flashbacks and stuff I thought she'd be a bit more cold, cool to see she really did for care Lienna and was just awkward as hell with it. ^_^

It’s cute and honestly very relatable in some aspects. She can see the way her childhood friend is going and knows how this will end, but has been conditioned into thinking that she can’t divert it, so all she can do is watch.

Also it’s cute seeing how… normal I guess? Seeing how normal Claire’s ideas of helping Lienna are. Just getting her some food, taking her on a walk, making sure she gets a nap. Perhaps the reason she didn’t do it is because that would be a connection between them as people, and doing that would weaken Lienna’s will as knight commander if Claire were in danger in battle.

Cute moment between Lienna and Lily as well.

Also baffling how people are still convincing themselves that the women in this manga are only important for how sexually available they are to the men around them. Is this really the hill people are willing to die on? Looking at a woman who’s torn over her own inability to act for the person she trained with together as a child, both pushing their limits, for the sake of the organization she’s dedicated her life to and then going “oh yeah, she absolutely wants to fuck that 14 year old boy.”

Also I do wish Lienna was more hung up on this and did get pissed at Lily, or that later on she’s revealed to have suppressed her own emotions for the sake of keeping the peace. As much as she is a paragon of forgiveness, seeing her just passively accept tragedy for the sake of not ruffling any feathers does not feel like a development from her former mindset. She deserves to be pissed and selfish.
