Funny you say this, cause the Japanese actually don't care at all about that, I remember once a yuri mangaka got pissy cause someone was translating her doujins, even threatened not making next issues if they didn't stop.

I also remember seeing some artists surprised that their art gets uploaded in places like danbooru and such, even though they're publicly posted on pixiv, Twitter and so on.

The reality is that there's a cultural difference between us and them, we from the west understand that with the internet anything can be taken from one place and uploaded into a other, no official translation so fair game make our own translation, piracy and so on.

The Japanese though? Many really seem to not like or not even understand that mentality lol, doesn't matter if there's no translation in our language, for many of them fan translation is wrong out of principle.

Publishers just put money behind that, which makes dmca happen from time to time, but in practice if it depended on the mangakas we wouldn’t be here reading the fan translation of their works.
Ah I was forgot about this.

France has a pretty good comics culture and is the second biggest manga market after Japan, but they understand that they have to buy and support manga.
To be fair, it's mostly because there are public programs (like the Pass Culture or seeing Shichan and Ranma 1/2 at 6 yo) for kids since forever. So collections are already 10 years old by the end of uni, and for the rest it's second-hand market. Public and school libraries are full of manga as well. Internet simply didn't bring manga in the country. There are still manga that are translated, published and heavily advertised that you don't even see on Mangadex.

So there's no "supporting manga", its just culture consumption really.

To be honest, the companies doing this aren't technically in the wrong, it's piracy, and it's their content.

On the other hand, i support piracy for manga because it does make things available that never would be in english, along with helping you figure out what you want to buy physically. It's a tough spot to be, and this site (along with others) are going to be ripped apart soon.

Any platform that comes out of this will likely be a hassle to use for most readers.
What you’re saying about piracy making people want to buy physical releases is so true. All of the manga I own now is stuff I read from here. I refuse to pay for anything I won’t own and I refuse to own anything I haven’t read

is there a way to download reading list? and current chapter? if there no way to download reading list, i doubt i would continue reading here considering there no way to know the manga chapter you read when you delete it. in fact, arent MD actually completely nuke manga existence when they remove it? unlike NovelUpdates where previous read novel still mark till you unmark it

Hi everyone! We're rolling out two updates today: one highly requested enhancement and one important rules clarification.

You can now once again tailor your reading experience by filtering out content you don't want to see across the site. To set it up, go to Settings -> Blocks -> Tag Filters and pick the tags you'd like to avoid.
  • When browsing a title tagged with any of your filtered tags, you'll see a warning giving you the choice to continue or go back.,
  • You can fine-tune when this warning appears under Settings > Content Warning Preference.,
  • If you choose to ignore the warning, tags will still be highlighted in a distinct colour with an icon, so you know they've been filtered.,
  • These filters, however, do not apply to the Staff Picks, Self-Published and Seasonal carousels on the homepage, as well as titles you receive updates for.
To ensure fair access for readers and sustainable practices for translation groups, we have updated our rules on excessive profiteering to include external sites with pay-walled content and hosting of infringing material:
Groups may not promote platforms that permanently lock translated works behind a paywall or manipulate release schedules to encourage paid access.

However, early-access previews—such as chapters made available in exchange for donations or reader requests—are permitted only if all content is released freely after a consistent delay.

Any group that hosts on its own website or any other external site official releases or chapters belonging to other groups without explicit permission and proper credit is prohibited from uploading any content to MangaDex.

We have been enforcing these standards informally for some time, but growing misuse and a surge in user reports have prompted us to codify these policies.

This update ensures we continue to enforce our rules consistently and fairly, with no exceptions. MangaDex’s mission remains the same: to be a free and open platform that still allows groups to receive community support.
Quite nice update, prevent other people stealing translater works.

Also, I know someone might not like it but I have to say, on one hand a situation like this is our own fault.

Having everything in a single place just means it becomes easier to get attacked.

We became complacent and lazy because it's convenient having everything in a single place.

Honestly, with how many scanlation groups don't even exactly hide their identity, not to mention the ones who try to profit from it, it's a surprise Japanese publishers are not attacking harder, especially since more and more series seem to get licensed through their apps.

Times are changing, I guess we should start changing too before they do even more damage to us.
If anything it’s more too many uploads were low quality (lacking sizable redraws) and weren’t enough into fair use that even let it happen at all. Still plenty that got taken down that would be fine to leave up depending on where this site’s hosted though

I don't know what to say. On the one hand, MD devs finally introduced this essential basic feature that is tag filtering. On the other hand, DMCA nonsensical shit which WILL turn this beautiful website into a disgusting barren wasteland. I suppose this place has reached its "expiration date".

Square Enix and Kodansha and these other idiots refuse to understand that I’d rather pay a $5 sub to get 100 chapters a day like I do on Shonen Jump/Manga Up, than to pay for some needlessly confusing and overpriced key system that will probably only let me pay through iOS.

So, it is a service issue actually.

Then you're completely disregarding facts. Have you noticed that people are boycotting K-manga because they think it's too expensive, and that people expect at most to pay $2 a month for a subscription like on viz or mangaplus, even though shueisha and viz are obviously losing money on having such a low price? You can make excuses all you want, but the issue these days are not a service problem, it's that people don't want to pay and basically expect to get manga for free.
