Basically, this has been building up on in the far background for a while now. Their friendship stopped being just that around the time Erika slapped Komichi for endangering herself for Erika's sake. This whole play arc has been all about bringing up to the table a lot of things that were there but no one dared to act on. Komichi and Erika's relationship was always at the center of the arc, so now we are back to it.
